Telecine Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I was listening to Nils Lofgren, Absolutely Live this afternoon and decided to check the connection on my power amp that sits between my speakers (the image is a little off centre since I adjusted the speaker position. It is normally well centred). I was kneeling down between the speakers while Keith Don't Go was playing and something caused me to look up, there was Nils, belting out the tune about a metre above my head. I usually get good soundstage height but was surprised by what I experienced when right between the speaker, quite low to the ground. Anyone else with any interesting or surprising experiences? 1
houdinifangs Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 (edited) I found an extra dimension to my headphones one day. The sound was especially 3D and seemed to extend out into the room. Very surreal. I listened for about 30 minutes and marveled until I discovered that I had not switched my main speakers off... Edited September 9, 2012 by houdinifangs 7
ZEN MISTER Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I can note two 'events' of interest. Firstly, about twenty years ago, I ran a pair of Celestion SL6 speakers, that whilst being bass shy , imaged like nothing else I have heard. One evening, sitting in the semi-dark, an almost holographic sonic image of ENYA appeared whilst playing the first album. She was standing between those speakers, and I got a sense of height, distance and size that was unnerving. The second, less brilliant. Listening to headphones thru an AV amp, wondering why the imaging was all over the bloody shop, only to discover, after three or four CDs, that the Pro-Logic circuit was on!!!!! Duh! ZM. 1
Sub Sonic Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I found an extra dimension to my headphones one day. The sound was especially 3D and seemed to extend out into the room. Very surreal. This reminds me of listening to earphones with the sub(s) on, adds extra realism to the music :-) Kind of defeats one of the reasons for using earphones though LOL.

Sir Triode Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Good Album that one (Nils Lofgren Live) . I love it. 1
tal Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 I was once listening to the same Nils track, and the imaging was vastly and weirdly different to any other time I'd heard it. The guitar was belting out of the RH room wall near the roof, the entire soundstage was just all over the place. It was quite magical. ... until I discovered I'd got the connections to the power amps to my active speakers mixed up when I plugged in a different amp on the mids. The LH mid was playing RH channel, the LH woof and tweet placing the correct LH channel. Doh.

Was listening through the headphones late one evening, and was amazed at how it sounded. I had the volume up, figuring that it wouldn't bother the neighbours. Took the headphones off after a while, only to realise the sound was belting out through the main speakers. No complaints from the neighbours though.
emesbee Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Good Album that one (Nils Lofgren Live) . I love it. Indeed! Seems to be an SNA favourite, with good reason.
