Step up from Stanton 500-II cart and D5100 AL-II stylus.

A mate has just asked me what he could get to improve on the Stanton 500-II cart and D5100 AL-II stylus for his Technics SL1210 Mk2. I personally wouldn't have a clue so thought I'd ask here. Is that a good setup? what would be better for say $300 to $400?
