bertdoozer Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 (edited) These seem to be designed to protect computer equipment. Are they suitable for hi-fi gear that needs voltage spike protection as well as uninterrupted power supply? They do provide voltage spike protection, but the issue in this thread is an unreliable source isnt it? Edited September 25, 2012 by bertdoozer
DoggieHowser Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 We had a fair bit of power outages when we first moved into the new estate, I ended up getting 4 Belkin UPS from Dick Smith for my NAS. I had lost some data because the frequent power outages were really bad for my NAS. http://www.google.co...IwAA#ps-sellers I opened up 2 and kept 2 on standby in case. Anyway because the study had few power points, I also used them for my study hifi system. For the most part it worked OK with my Bel Canto gear, but I kept getting intermittent noise with the Ayon CD5S. I kept thinking it was an impedance issue. But when I brought the Ayon to Mike's workshop, and partnered it with the McIntosh, there was no such noise even with the McIntosh's very low input impedance. So anyway, last weekend, I reconfigured all the power points so I could use the a direct connection to the wall socket for the hifi. Just brought the Ayon back home and voila. No noise. So yes, the UPS does seem to introduce some noise to the circuits. Also discovered one of the 4 units is dead. Sigh. It's been over a year and I must have misplaced the receipt
