At the end of May I purchased an ex-demo Clear Audio Concept turntable; unfortunately, I've yet to see it in action. It wasn't quite the bargain I had anticipated, as after enquiring I was told that it would require a 'cartridge interface' ($150) to enable it to connect to fit my Ortofon cart. By this time I had my heart set on it, so I transferred the funds for the TT and interface, and waited for it to arrive. It was at this point I was informed that the seller couldn't find a power supply unit, but he was going to order one direct from Germany. The turntable arrived a couple of weeks later, I opened it just to check it, and noticed that the magnetic arm was on its side, but I just flipped it back and it seemed to be okay. It was weeks before the cartridge interface appeared, then weeks again until the power supply arrived. However, when the PSU did arrive it was the wrong size, so I had to send it back.....time passed and eventually I was all set to go. I connected everything, ready to listen to some vinyl, but there was a problem with the tonearm - it wasn't floating when powered on. After several text messages and emails I was asked to send the unit into the a service agent. After a short while I was informed that it would require a new tonearm - total repair bill $800. Fortunately, the seller agreed to pick up this bill - however, the unit has been repaired for a while now and the service centre (quite rightly) refuses to send it back until the bill has been settled. I have not heard from the seller since....Just wondering what to do next. I've been without music for months (I had to sell my previous TT to fund this purchase). I paid for the Clear Audio Concept on 22 May! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bad news Sean. Try to identify who the distributor is for Clear Audio in Australia and escalate the matter to them in the first instance. Provide them with a chronology of events and a copy of supporting correspondence. Make sure that you follow it up with a letter asking for their written response.

You want us to round up a possie of middle aged audiophiles to go and sort him out ??

I was gonna say.................I know a few Maori living on the Goldcoast!

Where are these shysters!

The company is over in Perth. Thanks for offering to sort him out - but hopefully they will do the right thing!

Well just set Kajak onto him - his journey will come to a sticky end (the dealer - not Mario)

Thanks for the info - it's Audioconnection who are handling the repair.

I would be suggesting to them that this must be under warranty and should be a warranty repair at no cost to you.

The standard warranty on your deck is two years. If it was transported in the original box, the warranty stands according to their terms and conditions. Fill in the warranty card and send it in.

You have rights Sean, make sure that they don't get trampled on.

Many thanks for the replies and advice. The repair bill has now been paid and I should have the TT back next week. I don't think the company I was dealing with are a bad lot - just one hiccup after another. . Thanks to Ken at Audio Connections too.

Thanks again everyone. Can't wait to listen to all the vinyl I've been buying over the past few months on my Concept TT + Ortofon 2M Black.

When it is all delivered make sure you double check the arm / cartridge set-up before listening to music. get out the protractor, the stylus gauge, check VTA, overhang, cartridge alignment, azimuth etc.
