O.Sydney Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 The September 2012 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again at Dence Park for an afternoon of fine music and sound and convivial company. Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. This month we will have a complete system provided by Syntec International (refer to http://www.syntec.com.au). For over 35 years Syntec International has been the Australian and New Zealand distributor for some highly renowned and respected brands of audio equipment. Some of their brands include: Arcam, Bryston, Dynaudio, Lehmann, Manley, MIT, Neumann, Sennheiser and Tangent – to name a few. This month we will have a system comprising Dynaudio and Bryston. The electronics will be a Bryston combo of a 4B-SST power amp, BP26 pre-amp and CD player (please refer to http://www.syntec.com.au/home.php?cat=261). The 4B-SST is a pure dual mono design and offers 300 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 500 watts into 4 with over 1000 watts available in bridged mode. The speakers will be the Dynaudio C2 (please refer to http://www.dynaudio.com/int/home_loudspeaker_systems/confidence/confidence_c2.php). The C2 is a 1.5 meter tall floorstander. It has two Esotar tweeters and two mid/bass drivers with special Kapton voice coil formers that are perfectly integrated by the advanced crossover to yield a seamlessly balanced yet detailed sound and incredible sound staging. We will also have a Sugden Connoisseur BD-1 turntable, very recently refurbished by a club member. It’s definitely no Transrotor but it reportedly sounds pretty good. It has the Shure V15 Type 3 cartridge. The phono stage will be by Graham Slee. Sorry, no music server this month. For this meeting, both music sessions will be BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on CD and vinyl. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind. Members and Guests welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. We will welcome you at the door. Venue: Epping Creative Centre Address: 26 Stanley St, Epping Doors open 1pm Meeting starts at 2pm Best regards, Tom Waters President Sydney Audio Club www.sydneyaudioclub.org.au tomwaters@sydneyaudioclub.org.au This post is for and on behalf of Tom and the Sydney Audio Club
chefscuba70 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Yes, this Sunday (9th). Address as well as all upcoming meeting and event dates can be viewed on the website in the calender area. I've always enjoyed listening to a fellow members C1's, so am very much looking forward to hearing this setup. Hope you can join us.
O.Sydney Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 I'm keen on hearing the C2's myself, and before I bought my current amp the Bryston 4B-SST was one I considered. Should be a great combo
chefscuba70 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Went and picked up the gear from Syntec today and they have managed to loan us the "Signature Confidence 2" speakers in the gorgeous mocca finish for Sunday. These will look as stunning as they sound. Will provide some kodak moments for sure. Packed in 2 wooden crates, 1.7 metres high and over 80kg each, was challenging getting them into the car and home. Amp is a hefty bugger too. Won't be unpacking until Sunday morning when setting up the system at the club. Should be a fun day.
Viognier Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Sounds like it will be a great afternoon. Unfortunately I can't attend this month. Enjoy it guys and I look forward to the pics.
chefscuba70 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 It was a great meeting with a fun vibe. The Dyn's looked and sounded amazing, backed up by the Bryston gear, was one of the best sounding systems I've heard at the club, (in my 15 months as a member). Took a while to warm and open up, as the C2's only had 20 hours run in previously but once primed they gave an exciting and detailed sound with great imaging and sound stage, though better imaging was depending on seating position. There was no problem filling the large room with music and all tracks played was easily enjoyed, even the classical tunes which are not always to my liking. Listening levels were louder than usual without being overbearing, with one track I tested peaking at 100db, and I was sitting 3 rows back. Only some rock tracks sounded a little sharp and edgy. The clubs turntable, recently reworked by club member RJ, sounded amazing as well, especially for the little money spent on it to bring it back to life. It even managed to peak some interest from the digital guys, including myself.... Overall I think Dynaudio and Bryston gained some fans for sure. Unboxing was fun, the Dyns were very securely packed, though setting the system up was not as taxing as first thought which gave us more play and warm up time before the meeting started.
