i have had my oppo now for a week and already i have had

1)the draw refuse to shut (had to push with my hand) x2

2)the unit locked up when trying to stream> i stopped the music and it stopped but the play icon remained and would not go and i was unable to play anything else(had to turn off and on again) x2

3)turned on the player and had a no signal message on tv screen(had to unplug hdmi and plug back in before it would show the oppo screen)x1

i would not have expected this many faults within the first week so do you think this is normal or should i return it and get a replacement?

Get a replacement and try it out again. The drawer sticking is a worry in it's self as to it's longevity even apart from the other issues!

Mine froze up a few times when streaming some tunes when it was new. Only way to get it going again was a reboot. Must admit it's been ok for the last few months. No reason why though. I haven't ugraded the f/ware sincs I've had it (about 9 months)

My biggest gripe would be the remote. Has to be pointing directly at the player for it to work, plus I think it looks a bit chunky and ugly.

yep, send it back.

The draw not shutting could become a bigger issue later on

The draw might be an issue. I would have this looked at, especially if it recurs.

The streaming issue could easily be the fault of the server side software or network connection. I've had some freezes while streaming with my BDP-93, but it would take a lot of effort and expertise to be able to blame the OPPO for them. It has been my experience that some server side software works better than others.

The HDMI issue could be the TV.

@ Jeff65, that could be the case but because i have never had that happen before with any of the other hdmi connections i find that is unlikely but it could be possible

With any of these situations. Talk to the retailer. If not happy get it swapped. For the record, do a google will find people experiencing similar on 95 &93 at times.. Not as stable as older 83. With regard freezes & sluggishness.

@ nothing1 - if it is a 'major problem', you can demand a replacement or refund. You do not have to accept a repair for a 'major problem'. You choose, not the retailer! The retailer does not choose and they cannot refuse you.

If you go to the Fair Trading website you will find the following: http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/Consumers/Consumer_guarantees_warranties_and_refunds/Guarantees_on_goods.html#Rejecting_and_returning_goods

Can I get a refund, replacement or other compensation?

Whether you get a repair, replacement, refund or other ‘remedy’ depends on whether the problem is:

  • major – cannot be fixed or too difficult to fix
  • minor – can usually be put right.

You may also be able to claim for compensation for your costs in time and money because something went wrong with the goods.

For major problems with goods

You can:

  • reject the goods and get a refund
  • reject the goods and get an identical replacement, or one of similar value if reasonably available, or
  • keep the goods and get compensation for the drop in value caused by the problem.

You get to choose, not the supplier or manufacturer.

A major problem with goods is when:

  • a reasonable person would not have bought the goods if they had known about the problem. For example, no reasonable person would buy a washing machine if they knew the motor was going to burn out after three months
  • the goods are significantly different from the description, sample or demonstration model shown to you. For example, a person orders a red bicycle from a catalogue, but the bicycle delivered is green
  • the goods are substantially unfit for their normal purpose and cannot easily be made fit, within a reasonable time. For example, a ski jacket is not waterproof because it is made from the wrong material
  • the goods are substantially unfit for a purpose that you told the supplier about, and cannot easily be made fit within a reasonable time. For example, a car is not powerful enough to tow a consumer’s boat because its engine is too small – despite the consumer telling the supplier they needed the car to tow a boat.
  • the goods are unsafe. For example, an electric blanket has faulty wiring.

Cheers,

Trickster
