Batty Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Just rescued my 45s from the carport, all I need to do now is clean them up before I even think of playing them.
RockandorRoll Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I dont like 45's, have to take the platters off and change the band. Ive only got 1 45 i think (Elbow-Seldom Seen Kid) great album but unfortunately i very rarely listen to it
Rural Rat Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 (edited) Great to see you rescued them Steve. I went through the same exercise not too long ago. Found some real gems that I had forgotten. I bet you will too. Enjoy mate Edited August 31, 2012 by Rural Rat
Soundscape Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Old 45s are cool. whether or not they sound any good is another matter. I've got a few myself, some collectible stuff, hand-me-downs from late relatives and curios I picked up in my youth. I have all the early Shellac (band) 7" discs, of which I am proud as the tunes on them were not released anywhere else. A lot of indie music is only released on 7" vinyl. I bet there are some very interesting collections out there... So Batty, whatcha got? I saw some Police...
caddisgeek Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I'm a reasonablly (although not as much as I used to be) keen collector of 7 inch singles, usually chase singles of particular bands to get non LP tracks (have all the Sunnyboys and Stems singles), a few Stones picture sleeve eps, plus lots and lots of punk singles form the 90's. Probable have a couple of hundred or so I'm jealous of those early Shellac singles, really should have bought Uranus when it was released

One of Shellac's finest moments, preserved in wax. I also have their cover of "Jailbreak", which is quite special. And some Pink Floyd 7"ers, which are as rare as rocking-horse-**** as they hardly ever released singles. My prize is an original Japanese pressing of "One of These Days" that I bargained for and bought from Jules at Phantom Records. I'd like to see your Sunnyboys collection one day Steve. And that's not in a dirty way either 1
caddisgeek Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 wow, "One of These Days" single, never knew they existed
Soundscape Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Got this That's trick. I wish I had it. How's it sound?
Rural Rat Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 AC/DCs original. Pre Bon Scott would probably be my prize. Played it up at Mondies one night. 1
LogicprObe Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 AC/DCs original. Pre Bon Scott would probably be my prize. Played it up at Mondies one night. I bet it rocked!
Grumpy Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Gave most of mine away to a woman who makes bowls out of them. Thought I kept a few rare ones, but I can't find my Masters Apprentices' Undecided 45rpm!!
Anthony John Colbert Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 need to get yourself an old school changer to spin those 45's....it would be a royal pain on the Scoutmaster with the threaded spindle and clamp
Anthony John Colbert Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I remember as a kid my mum had a big old wooden fruit crate chock-a-block full of 45's...i used to love just grabbing a random handful of them and putting them on the changer, this is when i was like 5 or 6
Hergest Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I've got about 700 7 inch singles and 300 12 inch. When i started buying records in the 70s, i used to buy a couple of singles and an lp each week. I really miss nowadays not having the choice of all the singles and them being affordable. Those that i do see can be nearly $10. Some of them sound fantastic, a lot are pretty crappy but all of them are great fun playing and always bring back memories. It's a bit of a pain playing them on the SMEs but that's okay. The first 300 or so i bought, i took out of the sleeve and placed in a poly lined cardboard jacket and the original sleeves were all kept in boxes along with all my concert programmes. One summer when redecorating the house the boxes all went in the garage and got left. By the time i remembered them the mice had chewed through the lot and built nests. There were lots of special sleeves that folded out into posters or you could make into some kind of origami spaceship and all that nonsense. I was gutted. I've got a great collection of NWOBHM singles.
metal beat Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 (edited) Hergest Sounds like you need a juke box http://www.ebay.com....f2#ht_500wt_922 Edited September 1, 2012 by turntable
Kensell21 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 AC/DCs original. Pre Bon Scott would probably be my prize. Played it up at Mondies one night. I suppose that beats my Rolf Harris Stairway to Heaven..
emesbee Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 I have a handful of 45s from my high school days. Back then I very nearly bought a copy of Fraternity's "If You Got It", with Bon Scott on vocals. Have no idea why I didn't it get it, but really wish I had. It was pretty good, and seems to be a bit of a collectors item these days.
