keef Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Hi guys, First post here, really love the site! I've just purchased a Sansui Au-717, such a great sounding vintage amp! The guy I purchased it from was the original owner and told me he never had it serviced. I've read enough about these amps to know at the very least it will need a service and probably a recap. Was just wondering if anyone here could recommend someone in Sydney, who is experienced with vintage amps? Thanks guys, Joel
skippy124 Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 (edited) Hi Joel and welcome to SNA, (and also welcome the the Sansui club) The 717 is a great amp, and it would definitely benefit from a service and replacement of the half a dozen fuse resistors in the amp that will eventually give trouble (if not already on the way out), and the Caps could be done as well, particularly the larger ones asn the glue used to secure these tends to get corrosive over time and attacks any component that it comes into contact with. I'd be happy to have a look at it and give you an opinion of what needs to be done. Here is a link to an AU 717 restoration I did a little while ago http://www.stereo.ne...lter-caps-fail/ Cheers John Edited August 30, 2012 by skippy124
