Guest Y B Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 (edited) Item: Sutherland Ph3D Battery Operated Phono Stage Location: Sydney, Redfern Price: SOLD ON EBAY Item Condition: 16 months old, 9+ Reason for selling: Upgraded Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal (You pay paypal fees), COD Only. Extra Info: I bought the Ph3D last year in April for $999 + $150 delivery from Elusive Disc. I have only changed the batteries once, which was 4 weeks ago, and I play records nearly everyday. The unit has been in perfect working condition and sounds great, no noise and no extra cables, I love it! No parts is in bad conditions except, I just discovered when I open the tray for photographs today, one battery leaked and the paint of the internal battery tray has peeled off caused by battery leak, and also a tiny bit of paint peeled off just above the front switch, see pictures. All the batteries has expiry date of March 2017 or 2018! Ph3D was the TAS Editor's Choice Awards winner for 2007 and 2008 and Highly recommended by HiFi News. Below is an excerpt taken from Elusive Disc website: "Ron Sutherland’s at it again – introducing his third phono preamp. The Ph3D brings the virtues of a battery-powered phono stage to an even more affordable price point. Sutherland’s new design can be considered an introduction to high-end or a final destination – the Ph3D comfortably plays both roles. By focusing on the essential elements of “high end†values, Sutherland was able to make design decisions that deliver “high end†character and good value for the money. Everything Sutherland’s designed has resulted in rave reviews from throughout the Hi-Fi editorial community. The Ph3D is destined to be yet another classic. Just like with Sutherland's more expensive Ph.D., the battery-powered Ph3D means complete isolation from the noisy AC power line. There's no chasing down elusive ground loops and the power supply is an easy-to-find, easy-to-buy and easy-to-replace set of D-cell batteries. A low-battery indicator light lets you know when it's time to replace the batteries, but you can expect about 1,200 hours of effective use per set of 16. The Ph3D includes five cartridge-loading values and five gain settings, both easy to adjust. The unit features a dual mono circuit board layout for the best channel separation. Conventional designs use inexpensive, low-quality computer rocker switches. Their design is inadequate for configuring the low-level signal from a phono cartridge. To offer the user a wide range of configurations while maintaining signal integrity, the Ph3D uses gold-plated header pins and gold-plated shunts. They offer high-pressure and large surface area contacts." For more information, here & here. TAS Reviews ToneAudio Reviews Audiokarma Reviews *** Prefer pick up but will freight at buyers expense. I have the original box. Will include the 15 good batteries if local pickup. Costs $4 dollars each. Might be too heavy for freight. Edited September 19, 2012 by Y B
