The Dec Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Hi Guys Was wondering if someone could help me I have a Marantz SR5005 amp, a Pionner CD/DVD player (ie. with HDMI), Jensen speaker setup and a new Sony Bravia Television. Have set all the components up however I am having some problems with the HDMI from the amp into the CD/DVD. In that when I turned on the TV on and went to play a DVD I got sound but no picture. However to get around the problem temporarily I have got a RCA connector( ie yellow, red & white) and just run the yellow cord from the DVD straight into the TV and left the HDMI connected from the AMP into the DVD/CD. As a result now I get a picture and sound. Can anyone suggest why I wouldnt be getting picture and sound using the HDMI connection. Cheers
Fun-Ghoul Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Hi - hate to ask the obvious but as you haven't mentioned it, is there another hdmi cable from the receiver to the tv (for video)?
The Dec Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 Thanks for the reply Yes there is another HDMI cablee from the receiver into the TV Thanks

Cheers While connected via the RCA (and HDMI), check the settings menu on the Pioneer DVD player. You may need to choose the HDMI output manually.

However when I select one of the HDMI channels on the TV still no picture. Its only when I select the VCR iinput on the TV do I get a picture but I am still getting sound through all the speakers from the DVD I tryed taking out the RCA cord and still had no luck with getting a picture (via HDMI) Cheers
Hifiplus Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 What happens if you connect via hdmi from DVD into your tv bypassing the receiver This will confirm DVD is outputting picture via hdmi, the hdmi cable is working and the tv hdmi input.

Gidday Thanks for the reply. I had already tested this before I used the receiver. As you suggested I ran the HDMI directly from the CD/DVD into the TV and I didnt have an issue.with getting a picture Its only when I run the HDMI through the receiver do I not get a picture Thanks
Fun-Ghoul Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Hi. If it were me, I’d check the hdmi cable from the SR to the TV to make sure it wasn’t faulty – perhaps by trying it directly between the DVD player and TV (instead of the other cable). If the cable works, then I reckon there is a fault in your SR. Is this the first time you have run an hdmi cable out from the SR, or has it worked for you previously? Cheers.

Gidday Thanks for the post. Yes what I did was I didnt connect the RCA cable from the DVD/CD into the television at all. Then I tried the HDMI cable running directly from the DVD/CD player into the TV and had no problems. (ie. picture etc) Then when I connect the HDMI cable from the DVD/CD player into the receiver I get sound but no picture. However when I connect the yellow RCA connector into the DVD/CD and run that into the TV I get a picture. Cheers

Wonder what the chance is that the HDMI copy protection is incorrectly kicking in when the receiver is in the chain?
Fun-Ghoul Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Hi The Dec. What I was actually getting at was to make sure that the other hdmi cable is also working - you have already tried one directly from the player to the tv and I was suggesting trying the other hdmi cable from the player to the tv also. Reason I am saying this is because recently one of my hdmi cables decided to stop working... If you have already tested both, then I'll shut up... Good luck.

HDMI copy protection) is there anyone that I could call ar that I could to test this. Would It be worth my while calling Pioneer (ie..CD/DVD) or Marantz asking them
