Scratcher Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Hi, Just wondering if anyone has tried one of these new musiland 32bit/384KHz dacs? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Musiland-Monitor-2012-03-US-Dragon-USB-3-0-Sound-Card-Amplifier-DAC-32bit-384KHz-/300727919717?_trksid=p4340.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%252BC%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D15%26pmod%3D130562824962%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D1661479551069950880&_qi=RTM1062688 Cheers Liam
techspurt Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Windows only driver seems a bit limiting. Also why would they include a USB 3.0 cable? - no audio standard needs USB 3.0 Limited edition of 9500 units seems a bit odd too. I haven't heard it btw - it uses PCM1798 so wouldn't be to my taste
Addicted to music Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 BB PCM1798 is not 32bit, its 24 only. I have the BB 1798 Gigaworks dac which is my 1st, FWIW, at $69.00US with no case but includes the PSU its a bargan for the price. The BB 1798 is quite a decent SQ that lead me to chase more expensive dacs. Sorry Techspurt, but this chip is very very good IMHO
techspurt Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Hey I'm not giving my opinion on the chip, just what I hear - it distorts instrumental tonality, especially noticeable on brass. Also the dynamics sound compressed when compared to multibit. But everyone has their own taste, I agree Trouble is there's not much choice out there in terms of multibit DACs to do A/B comparisons with, almost everything with USB in is S-D these days. 1
sum1 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I got a 2012 Musiland 01 USD USB/SPDIF device that uses a usb3 connection as well. I believe the USB3 connection is possibly for the extra power that usb3 can give out. Data still streams at USB2. Some review and details about musiland devices can be read here http://hifiduino.wordpress.com/category/usb-audio/
