Hi

I was after some help as I am not up to date with multi channel receivers and all their options. I need to find a receiver to replace my mums faulty 13year old Pioneer receiver that has already been repaired 3 times and she now wants a new one. I have had a look around and there are so many options it is just too confusing. Listed below is everything I can think of for now.

There are no brand preferences but obviously want the best bang for buck without going second hand.

Budget 1-1.5K

Setup is 5.1 and wont be expanded at anytime.

The main speakers are Jensen DX95 6 Ohms 92db with built in amp and subs

Center speaker is a Jensen DX303 6 Ohms 93db

Surround speakers are Jensen DX30 6 Ohms 91db

There is no need for a second zone or anything like that as the house has been setup with a Sonos system.

Main speakers can be bi-amped if the only option is 7.1 receiver

Sony flatscreen so HDMI would be best as Bluray might be an option in the near future as the DVD player is also getting on in years.

Need to be able to plug in VCR as well as DVD CD etc.

Is the video upscaling in these things any good?

I have looked at the likes of the Denon 2312 & 3312 and the Marantz SR5006 & SR6006 but they have a heap of stuff that would never be used.

Look forward to any suggestions help etc.

Cheers Regan

I recently got a Pioneer VSX - 921 to try out. It is a nice amp. Good connectivity, but lacks pre-out. Has only 1 x HDMI out but I think it does upscaling. I don't think power is an issue with 92dB/w/1m speakers. I ran them on Watt/puppy copies with no issues at all. Plenty loud. Sound not bad at all. Price was around $500 or so on special at JB Hifi.

I wouldn't pay more unless I wanted pre-out / main in.

Thanks for the replies.

cazzesman will be sticking with brand new but thanks for the offer.

Janjuc thanks for the link.

With further discussion we now need a receiver with 2 HDMI out to connect a 2nd outside screen (simultaneous is ok)

What are peoples thought on Yamaha, they don't have audyssey, does this make a huge difference?

Can get a Denon 3312 for $1190 and most probably get Yamaha RX-V1071 for similar or less.

Cheers
