Gordon Macfarlane Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Hi guys , almost finished restoring a LENCO GL75 for one of our good members. Here are a couple of pics ,so the owner can see this little beauty:
tuyen Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Nice work G. That Jelco arm looks like a few notches above the standard arm hey
Gordon Macfarlane Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Thanks guys. Very much a labour of love restoring vintage turntables. Lots of work but good fun. Yep !T I think the Jelco should be a wee bit better than the original
tuyen Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 How did you make the platter so shiney? I think mine deserves some TLC soon
Gordon Macfarlane Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) Autosol? Yup and a lot of elbow grease. Edited August 28, 2012 by Ozcall
tuyen Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Keen if owner is keen The auditorium23 mat should arrive tomorrow, so anytime after is goood. What cartridge is going on this bad boy, G?
soundfan Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Very nice Ozcall. Have you ever considered the PTP plates that take these excellent stock tt's to a way higher level? Used in conjunction with a suitable plinth of course. And I agree with tuyen, and don't rate the standard arm that came with the GL75 at all.
Gordon Macfarlane Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Hi SF , if this was my own turntable then I would certainly be thinking about the upgrades you mention. That being said, this tt was in relatively poor condition when I got it and now with a full service , much better arm and proper cable routing so as not to impede the suspension it should sound most excellent
Upfront Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Yup and a lot of elbow grease. I feel your pain! I, many years ago, polished a set of mag wheels for my Datsun. Looking back it was a huge waste of a week off. I think it took about 6 hours per wheel. But on the upside I had a new found respect for people like yourself Gordon that take the time. Nice work.
Telecine Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Nice work Gordon, I am sure the owner will love it.
Gordon Macfarlane Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Thanks Linc , find that sort of work cathartic but I guess if I had to do it every day it would drive me bat poo.
Gordon Macfarlane Posted August 29, 2012 Author Posted August 29, 2012 Got the Lenco up and running this morning and WOW! I can understand why these are such popular decks. Wonderful solid vocals with a big open sound. 2
Upfront Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 They do seem to have a huge following. Tuyens Ptp5 bastardisation was very nice. I truly enjoyed it.
tuyen Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Thanks mate. Have to thank flemo, who basically made the whole table. All I did was screw the ptp5 kit and tonearm on G, keen to do work on my cousin's GL75 I have here?

tuyen Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Great, will discuss the GL75 via pm or fb the ptp5 kit costs around $200-250. It's made by a Peter Reinders who is an admin and contactable on the Lenco Heaven forums. http://www.lencoheaven.net/ I think ya gotta register before can access the Market Place > Traders section to get more details..
soundfan Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Got the Lenco up and running this morning and WOW! I can understand why these are such popular decks. Wonderful solid vocals with a big open sound. They are indeed. I had to make a very difficult choice when going back to only one tt, between a Technics SP10 in slate plinth, and my tricked up Lenco. I chose the Lenco. Both excellent tables but a smidge more PRAT with the Lenco IMO.
truongnguyenduc Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Hi, I have just restored a completely stock Lenco GL75 and also think that it sounds wonderful. It is very quiet, background noise is negligible. With a new V-block from Russian, the stock tonearm is an excellent choice.
ggdobbs Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Is there anyone in Sydney who would restore a Lenco L78 (and perhaps install a new arm)
