Oz Vinyljunkie Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 I am a bit of an audiophile newbie but want to get some better gear.I am a DJ and a record dealer and i am currently in the US on a record buying trip. A guy i have bought over 5000 records from has a 2015 he said he would let me have for 400-500 bucks. Visually its in good nick but i need to power it up and test it out. Is it a good amp? Worth bringing home? thanks in advance

Dismord Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 It's a good buy but if, as I suspect, it's a 110V US model you'll have to invest in a step down transformer when using it on Oz 240 v supply.
GregWormald Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Check with Macintosh about the advisability of 50 Hz current rather than 60 Hz--the 50 Hz will make it run hotter, and there may be other frequency dependencies. Greg

Greg I use run a McIntosh mc2155 and c28 with a Powertech MF1082 240v step down no problems, the step down does have a re set cut out switch if it gets to hot.As Greg says check with McIntosh better to be safe than sorry, but I never had any issues . The mc2155 has found new home (wish I never sold it) I still use the same step down set up with a mc240 and c28. Edited August 26, 2012 by MC240
Oz Vinyljunkie Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 someone told me it can be converted to 240v easily enough. he has 2 other mcintosh amps the preamp may be there as well
firefly0071 Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 My McIntosh MC50 power amps were easy to convert to 240 volts courtesy of Zaphod!
Oz Vinyljunkie Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 found the mc28 preamp sitting next to the 2150 so will be getting a good deal on both. i have bought over 5000 records from the guy so should be 600 for both
firefly0071 Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Excellent - see if you can convert and if not, use a transformer.
Two Flies Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 (edited) WOW $600 for the both. The mc2150 alone are going for $1300 + and the c28 $800 in the US on Audio Classics's. On US ebay the c28's are going for between $500 and $800 depending on condition.I'd say you've done really really well congratulations.Welcome to the Aussie McIntosh owners club there's not to many of us. Note to anyone thinking of buying used mac gear from the US, it's well worth paying the extra dollar's Audio Classics's ask ,they've a good reputation with McIntosh gear, give great advice and offer a money back guarantee better than taking a punt on ebay . Question is it the 2150 or the 2015 ? the 2150 is 150 w the 2015 is 105 w Edited August 27, 2012 by MC240
Two Flies Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 What would they sell for at Classic Hifi? Good question LP I had my c28 on sna for $850 a while ago didn't get so much as a bite.
