JUV Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 hi lp havent got them out yet he said they still worked but a little dusty. were they alright in their day the su700 is rated at 50wrms the sh8020 is a 24 band eq think its 12 per side and not sure about the luxman cd player. how old would they be and would a restore make them worth it.
LogicprObe Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Yes, it's worth keeping. http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/technics_integrated_stereo_amplif_6.html What speakers have you got?
JUV Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 i dont have speakers for these my dad used a set of wharfdales 3way with a 12" driver but he got rid of them. there is also a technics tuner akai tuner and a akai cassette amp never took notice of them before but they have been there awhile
LogicprObe Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Well, just the Technics units makes a great set. Have you got any money for speakers?
JUV Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 yeah could spare about $600 maybe depending of course
Vintage_Hi_Fi Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 pretty reasonable set up for free! might be an idea to give them a clean internally and externally - hopefully they have been stored in a dry space. With $600 you could buy some very nice vintage speakers. In fact I'd spend slightly less on the speakers say $400 for a reasonable pair of JBL's, Infinitys or Polks and put the remaining $200 towards a minor service on the amplifier to ensure it remains reliable. 2

Good advice there.
JUV Posted August 29, 2012 Author Posted August 29, 2012 i have seen a set of infinity kappa 7 and polk rta12b forsale but havent gone to look at them just yet. would the lazer in the luxman still be good
Vintage_Hi_Fi Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 if it still working then - yes! i have the same player and still works very well if it starts to not read cdr's or slow to start you know the laser is on its last legs
danter Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I'll be the voice of dissent here. The amp is basically a crappy 80s effort that would not be worth the service. Poor money into something that will give you a quality sound return. The Luxman CDP is from the era of Luxman when they went seriously downhill and again would not be worth the effort. If they are both working and you are happy with them - enjoy. Dont waste money on them though. The Technics equalizer is apparently a very good unit though. Not much demand for equalizers these days, but back when, this was a well respected unit. Keep this one if interested, or sell it and put the funds towards a better amp and/or speakers.
