alistairm Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Item:IMF Compact Monitor III (CM3) speakers Location: Hunters Hill, Sydney (will post using pack n send at buyer's expense) Price: $375 Item Condition: Very good for their age. Bear in mind these speakers were manufactured some time between 1979 and 1985. All drivers are excellent. The (real) wood veneer is in reasonable condition. See the photos for more information. Reason for selling: I did not want to part with these, so my brother has been using them. He is now using a pair of Proac Response 2s. He had the Proacs for 3 weeks before deciding to take them instead of the IMFs. Compared to the Proacs, the IMFs have fuller bass and sound even more natural. I am sorely tempted to keep them, but am over my self-imposed 15 pairs of speakers limit (again). Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These are really lovely speakers, in the great tradition of British monitors. I believe them to be phase coherent and time aligned. They cost $2K back in the early 80s. They do all types of music very well, including electronic music. The are a "bloody big" bookshelf and with the 8" drivers they put out plenty of bass. See here - http://www.imf-elect...act-monitor-iii Dimensions 570 x 280 x 300 mm (24" x 1F' x 113/4") wide Drive Units 200 mm (8") Bass unit - plastic cone; 100 mm (4") Mid-range - plastic cone; 25 mm (1") Tweeter - soft dome Crossover Frequencies 375 Hz and 3 kHz Frequency Response 29 Hz to beyond audibility Efficiency 1 m Pink Noise - 84 dB at 1 watt Matching Impedance 8 ohms nominal Recommended Amplifier Power 20 watts to 150 watts per channel RMS Net Weight 26.5 kilos (58.30 Ibs.) twwen2 Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 I feel slightly better about my speaker addiction knowing that someone else has a 15-speaker limit! Good luck with the sale.
henry218 Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 if you see in the background, there is a huge horn telling him to "stop at 15" . is this speaker based on KEF drivers? regards henry
danter Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 My old babies! Terrific speakers - and collectable to boot on top of their excellent SQ. IMF used a variety of drivers over the years, KEF, Elac, Coles, Audax, Dalesford, Celestion, SEAS - some branded IMF, some generic. From memory, the bass is a variant of the B200 or SEAS woofer, the mid is the Elac 4/200B and the tweeter Celestion TW1500. This particular speaker is quite rare with the front baffle - the sealed CM3a being the more common.
alistairm Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 These are on ebay with 40 watchers. I need to clear the space for them desperately, as I have work starting in the listening room. $375 to any SNAer who can pick them up by the weekend. Al
