Oh,,,,,,,hang on..........I think he's just dead.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-08-26/first-man-on-moon-neil-armstrong-dead-at-82/4223190

The first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong, has died at the age of 82.

The former astronaut underwent heart-bypass surgery earlier this month, just two days after his birthday on August 5, to relieve blocked coronary arteries.

As commander of the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969.

Arguably, otherwise the first NASA actor to set foot in the secret studio lot made to look like a moon...........

Oh they were there A J , the secret studio bit of your post is also correct , very important at the time to not only be the first on the moon , but more important to be SEEN on the moon.

They did create a studio for the fake landing, this was so they could take photos in case the cameras failed in space.

Of course they did go to the moon as well.

A sad day indeed. NA was a decent hard working guy who never sought fame or recognition.

R.I.P. Neil

Sad day, he was a true explorer.

Hard to imagine how risky an undertaking that was - I'm sure my phone has more processing power than the computers they used

All very true.

R.I.P. Mr Armstrong.

Yes he seemed to be the type of person who let his actions do the talking rather than blow his own trumpet! We need more like him!

R.I.P.

He gave a generation the belief that we could achieve anything, a sad day for mankind.

+1 Tele , lets hope the USADA show some compassion and not take away those 7 Tour de France titles.

Wow.

Way to go, spoiling a tribute to a great pioneer. The drug dealer thread is elsewhere.

Sorry mate, just sayin', no offence

Yes, RIP Neil Armstrong. I well remember watching the live telecast (in glorious, fuzzy, black and white) and hearing those immortal words back in '69, when I was 13 years old.

It was pretty fuzzy.........they were on the moon and bouncing around when I got home from school.

Fascinating at the time.

Such a pity we never went any further. Still, humans have been to the moon and sad to see the first person on the moon die but he was 82.

DS

Aren't they talking about a manned mission to Mars if the funding can get up? That would be cool.

And I believe I read somewhere that your humble 1980's pocket calculator had more processing power than the NASA room of computers they used for the first missions! I guess valves won't be making comeback there then :P

Weren't the Processors in the Space Shuttle of the same vain as the 386 & 486 chips?

Something about reliability?

Well, I am glad my old 486 never did this! :P

So, Jake......you weren't into overclocking :D

I have a few concerns about the Mars mission.

1. First, it seems like it will just be a space version of Big Brother.

A manned mission to Mars is one of the most exciting, inspiring and ambitious adventures that mankind can take on. We see this as a journey that belongs to us all, and it is for this reason that we will make every step one that we take together. This will also be our way to finance the mission: the mission to Mars will be the biggest media event ever!

The entire world will be able to watch and help with decisions as the teams of settlers are selected, follow their extensive training and preparation for the mission and of course observe their settling on Mars once arrived. The astronauts will share their experiences with us as they build their new home, conduct experiments and explore Mars. The mission itself will provide us with invaluable scientific and social knowledge that will be accessible to everyone, not just an elite select few. Join us in this adventure. Put it on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or whatever platforms are available to you, and spread the word!

2. They start the mission by building 6 port-a-loos?

At least the evictions will make it 1000 times more interesting than the real BB :)

I think we'd be able to watch real snuff movies!
