I'm surprised that nobody talked about this film in xp, given that most people are here for the love of music. I caught this film on the plane by chance and am really glad I did so. Just to give some background information, Sound City is a studio located in LA, and to be honest I never heard of this place before I watched the show. It doesn't help that the description of the show doesn't really tell you much so I guess most people would have skipped over it.

The historical significance of this place cannot be understated, many important albums in 80s and 90s were recorded there (Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, Nirvana, Tom Pettys). What was special about this place was the acoustics as well as a custom Neve console.

This film is the directorial debut of Dave Grohl who bought the console in 2011 when the studio went bust, he of course recorded Nevermind with Nirvana in the early 90s. The accompanying soundtrack features an all-star cast, many of whom are featured on the show and came up with brand new songs just for the soundtrack. 5/5* for me.

I read that the soundtrack is pretty compressed which is a real shame given all the work put into recording all that stuff. I presume most peeps here are in their 30's, 40's so would be able to identify with these bands.  :P
