wechnivag Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Hi Friends, I'm just wondering how everyone deals with dust getting all over our amps, players etc. All the equipment racks are normally open (for cooling) but dust gets into everything, especially inside amps and receivers which have a lot of cooling vents. I'm thinking about getting a closed/covered rack, but will probably need to install cooling fans to ensure adequate ventilation and cooling? Any other alternatives? Cover the rack with a large cloth when not used? Any suggestions/sources for fully enclosed equipment rack with door? Probably need to DIY mod with cooling fans? Thanks for sharing!
wizardofoz Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 My tube amps I throw a cover over them once they are cooled down, but they are seldom used these days as I am using powered/ active speakers.
chaozhoi Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 guess can't help it if you are using open racks.. only way is the wipe everyday. I permanently close my room curtains but dusts just keep building up.
kzone Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Either of these: http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=85234.0;all
malsound Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Stop short of having a clean room, no way it is going to be dust free cover or no cover. This will help to extend cleaning interval. At low speed quiet as a cat, Oops wrong choice of words. :D http://usa.blueair.com/air-purifiers/500-series/blueair-503 and the occasional static duster but working it around cartridges use a mini version and but as careful as a bloodhound. :-X
wechnivag Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 Wow, the server rack is a great idea! But all the sides and fronts are perforated, so will still need to be covered when not in use? Is there a product in the market that can be completely enclosed when not in operation (shut off), and yet provide sufficient cooling when in operation, either by turning on an active cooling fan, or opening the front door, or likely both? Maybe a regular rack, covered with cloth when not in use is the best compromise. I'm a bit budget conscious, where can i get a 6 shelf rack without paying close to $500? Any furniture store sell suitable racks? From Adelphi and other dedicated audio racks will be surely expensive.
melmeow Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Closest to ur budget for 6 tier http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=132192.0
wechnivag Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 Wa, i also saw that post. Not sure want to jump for that, $500 is still exx.. And i just found something which i don't think has been discussed before in Xtremeplace. Behold, the IKEA LACK rack!! Strictly for the budget beginner audiophile, won't hold multi kilobuck power amps. But wow, what a great idea! http://forums.audioreview.com/audio-lab-tweaks-mods-diy/diy-ikea-lack-table-audio-rack-37040.html http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/turn-ikea-lack-side-tabes-into-162325 http://audioannext.com/index.php?topic=1954.0
chaozhoi Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 looking at the 2nd link.. i worry for the ventilation.
malsound Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Just in case some of you want to go the IT route. http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=468
Instek_88 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I just let the dust collect for months before I use a clean soft cloth to wipe them off.
Guest durianlover88 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Hehe...my bro G always say 'audiophile dust' :) Unavoidable unless cloth is always put on top of equipments...not difficult to clean the dust on top of equipments but the underneath. Need to use the flat type magic-clean cloth wrap to clean the underneath platform dust from time to time... Notice in air-con room, the audiophile dust accumulates slower..
