Guest CASH Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 (EDIT!!! my cd player is now back with me!! at long last!!!) as of 14march2013!! my Cyrus CD8SE was sent in for cd skipping disorder on 04 june 2012. till today, ( 9 months later ) its still not back with me!! i wonder if any of the bro's here have similar issues like me? what would u do if this happened to u? below is the picture of the service receipt...
qrm Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I would have to say even though they have been great at selling stuff, Repair work is a bit hit and miss one of my faulty Onkyo was there for months when I finally went around to ask what happened they said they did try getting in touch with no luck and as the repair was so expensive they dumped it!
Guest CASH Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 i actually asked them to get back to me on the estimated cost of repair as it was out of warranty already. instead, to my horror they said they sent it back to england ( without my knowledge and by me going down there to ask them on updates!! ) so i wasnt informed on cost of repair n it being sent to england!!! Damn!!! :(
qrm Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Keep us posted if they slap you with shipping cost, it could well be a ploy to make sure you dump it and buy a new one. Be interesting to see what they say if you insist you want it back.
Guest CASH Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 jus watsapp clarence from kec, but no reply... :'(
jimi1624705950 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 If it is out of warranty. Just let a local repair guy sort it. KEC don't have technical expertise so must send back mah
Guest CASH Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 but to wait 9 months?? kinda of too long wouldn't u say so??? 3/4 of a year gone by without listening to my cd's... hehehehe!!! ;D
jimi1624705950 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Maybe someone was walking back... ;) That's why I say dun bother- repair locally if out of warranty.
annapurna Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Next time send to Adrian. He should be able to repair it and much cheaper also.
myhifisystem Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Send to Adrian of Memory Lane as last time I send in my Velodyne sub twice during warranty period. It was actually done by Adrian. Service was quick and turnaround time acceptable. Regards
DJQ Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Bro Cash. Time to move on to other brand. There are many good and decent brand CDPs around. You are welcomed to listen to my SA-15s2 anytime.

whyeme Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Hi guys...my marantz CD player can't read dis liao... Can Adrian repair tat as well?including getting a new lans for it? Thx&rgds Try bro Alfred hp 96831411.
blue_starfish Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 James of Effective Audio. He can also upgrade the performance of the Marantz substantially by re-clocking and changing parts after the repair. Worth it if your Marantz is a mid to high model, and if you intend to keep it for a few more years to come.
simplybochup Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Hi guys u can also check with mivec (pm him on forum). I have asked him to fix my marantz sa15 the last time and he did a great job.
whyeme Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Mivec is Alfred. Afaik, James does only upgrading, not repairing or changing of cd lens. It was James who referred me to Alfred. Good job at reasonable price.

Good job at reasonable price. You are correct. James will only repair when done together with upgrading. Not as a standalone repair job.
wizardofoz Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 The life of repairers is a troubled one... spares are not always easy to find....the older the item the harder it is. even if you can find often replacements are not always in the best shape either, and some might even be fakes. http://sound.westhost.com/counterfeit.htm original manufacturers seldom reply to support requests from non authorised sources, and some have just closed up forever. some use custom parts, and work arounds have to be engineered to get things going if you are lucky there might be service manuals available and circuit diagrams online (sometimes not free) labour not cheap, parts are not always readily available or cheap, and everyone wants it cheaper and back same day. so how? If i did repairs for a living I would die...can never get my time spent on some projects. end up working for long hours to fix somethings that can only charge a few hours. must learn to be more picky about what is worth repairing and what is not...but sometimes no choice.
DIYer Straits Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I've just been asked to repair a TVC preamplifier with a beautiful build, CNC Aluminium chassis, and fully balanced. The construction inside was also nicely laid out. One of the female XLRs was faulty in that the locking spring escaped and the only remedy was a replacement as the XLR plugs cannot be removed once inserted. However, the idiot designer designed his amp in such a way that made ANY repairs almost impossible without messing up the internal. The only way to replace the socket was to desolder ALL 12 XLR sockets, ALL 8 RCAs sockets, the IEC and fuse sockets as well as remove the TVC main PCB and PSU for the relays. Furthermore, most if not all of the wires had hardly any excess. It was as good as rebuilding the entire preamp from scratch and how should I charge for this? And this is just to change one XLR socket. There is no way that I can redo the work as good as the original. In the end, I just disabled the locking mechanism on the faulty socket and that was it. Beautiful design but crappy for servicing. FYI In other words, just because the fault is simple doesn't mean that the repair will be easy. Time is money but not the parts for they are cheap. I paid my school fees so shouldn't I get my investment returned?
bolts1624705732 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 if it is hard to repair, can just quote a higher price and leave it to the end user to say yes or no.
