pioneer1231624706082 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Hi folks, I have a new assignment in Japan for a few months and am looking for places where I can check out some audiophile gear but especially headphones and headphone amps / DAC's. I have seen a couple of shops in Akihabara but was wondering if anyone knows any specialist shops where I can indulge myself and chat with like minded people. As you can see from my signature I have Woo Audio gear with top end Grado cans so know a little bit about what I'm looking at:) Want to buy a small rig and cans for my setup here and interested to try some Japanese brands that rarely see the light of day on our shores. Cheers
wizardofoz Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Be aware that most japanese stuff is 100vac only, not world voltage ready. Also manuals might not be in any other language than japanese. Akihabara is a great place to go wandering...sometimes you find shops upstairs in buildings you would least expect... I used to go up the lift and walk down the stairs checking out lots of buildings...far too many to mention have great finds...you can spend days doing this. Try meetup.com and see if any tokyo groups exist for audiophiles...you never know. Google is your friend too...with translate
aegis0129 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I just posted this in the music section, you like like to check out www.kakaku.com for pricies of just about anything in japan. Stax headphones, ATH headphones, etc..

wizardofoz Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Just remember that anything that needs power will likely be an issue and japan is 100vac 50hz not like usa which is 120vac 60hz, so transformers will be a bigger issue than frequency for things like tt's Apple products are safe..anything else and you are on your own. But have fun in japan. Great place and great ppl...try the meetup thing too, even just to socialise as lots of japanese like to mix with other language speakers if nothing else.
