I was walking around MacRitchie on Saturday afternoon and got caught in a massive downpour just as I came out onto the golf course area with no cover. While I quite enjoyed the rain, my Samsung Galaxy Note II did not. Samsung says it will cost $609 to repair it, so I'm wondering if it's worth it or I should just get a new phone?

Quest said I should get the new Sony since it's waterproof :p.

What do you guys think?

Maybe get a quote from a repair shop?

Ah, but Samsung will honour the warranty once the repair is complete and there is still 8 months left.

Anyone bought from www.sgbest.com? Seems like they have good prices.

I can sell off the old phone for parts if I can get a list of what is broken/functioning. Then I get a spare battery and stylus.

I just visited Francis (thanks!) and looked at his latest phone. The Oppo is indeed a very nice phone and value for money, but I'm in love with the Samsung Galaxy Note II's screen size.

I'm just going to have to get another Samsung Galaxy Note II. Hopefully I can sell the broken one for parts on eBay :p.

My Samsung SIII bit the dust suddenly and I sent it for repair. I suspected that it was the power supply unit but they gave me a new motherboard instead. For free as it was still under warranty. FYI.

Yeah, if it wasn't water damage, then the warranty would cover it. Even though I merely got caught in the rain, rather than drop it in the loo or go for a swim, it's still water damage to them.

I've decided to go ahead with the repair after they confirmed the warranty would be covered for the remaining 8 months and they are replacing the motherboard and LCD.

I wasn't convinced that was the LTE version, as they didn't list the bands in the specs. Anyway, I've given Samsung the go ahead.

I remember jumping in a pool with my Nokia 3200 in my pocket. Managed to get it out of the water after 30sec. It still worked after I let dry for a day. ;D

Singapore only bring in the lte version.

If you do enjoy the rain, may want to consider something like the Sony Xperia Z next time as mentioned... :)
