Hi, i notice the sides of my projector screen are curling up. This is very noticeable especially if there's a panning scene or straight line across. I am using a FAVI manual pull down 72" screen.

Is there anything I can do on my own to minimize or resolve this? Or is there no more hope and I will need to change to a new screen?

Hi , the material is a thin fiberglass base when it is keep and roll out again the edge curling will appear . Later you will notice the "V" will appear as the roller bars are also small type  and shag due to gravity .

This type of  manual screen are mainly use for schools and institution as they are economical and replacement are very frequent. The usage are basic and flatness is not very critical .

Most manufacturer or screen designer will do large casing and roller bar , with thick material to hold better . This also means the cost is much more .

That's why all cinema or theatre use only fixed screen or lace and grommet . To have 100% flatness.

Hope that help

if fixed screen is not an option for me due to having wall mounted TV, any recommendation for manual pull-down? Or perhaps even any sort of modifications on the current one to stretch the sides.

There are some screen company provided tap tension , but you need more width space .

I dont think it is possible for you to modify your FAVI ? Too much work and alot of special stuff to do and might not be perfect .

Best is to buy a new one .

The tap tension has a tendency of absorbing the humidity in the environment it does not matter what brand . They also takes up more space due to the curve sides .

Get your room check to check the RH level , if it is too high than best to get the fibre glass base with black backing .

The fibre glass base will have option on coating for video enhancement and can do smaller casing with large roller tube to hold the material better to minimize the "V"

Most application will require longer black drop so that the casing can be hidden in the ceiling or place higher . This will allow the still height " centre speaker top area " for a more comfortable viewing area .

Check your application before purchase.

Hope that helps

Alf,

can you suggest a tap tension screen to buy.

and how much will a reasonable screen cost?

am thinking of 92in or 100in.  thanks.

The cost varies from brand to brand .

A average motorize fibre glass matt white with standard black drop USA and japan brands $ 1700 to $ 2450

Local motorize brands with extra black drop $1550 to $1680
