How to determine cause of vocal distortion?

Featured Replies

Hi, I was listening to a CD i bought from That CD Shop, 'Pavarotti The Duets', last night and noticed some vocal distortions during some parts when the singing are more 'intense'. Of course I am hoping that this is due to the bad recording of the CD but at the same time am a bit worried it might be by my equipment.

Any method you guys have to determine if it's due to bad recording or equipment problem? Never had such problems previously and this is my only Pavarotti CD, so I don't have another CD by him to test out.

Listening to the CD through a headphone/earphones. See if distortion is still there.

Other than headphones, sometimes if the distortion is on one particular channel, I change the left/right channel input/output to see if it is repeated on the other speaker.

the distortion sounds like when once when I watch Jackie Evancho sing O Mio Babino on David Foster's concert from Youtube on my PC speakers haha.. the highs will have distortions and crackling. Will try the headphone method
