daveths Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Hey brudders, I'm currently planning to make one of my room as an entertainment room for Karaoke singing, movies, audiophile music, gaming etc. I'm budgeting at around $30K-$40K. Hence, I'm now seeking ideas to help me with my planning. Here's a rough idea that I have: 1) Sony VPL-VW1000ES home theater projector (CD) - Price S$? 2) Screen for projector - Fixed or retractable? If retractable, can mount TV behind - Price S$ 2) Pioneer SC-LX86 AV receiver+amp - S$3,500 3) B&W CM9 theatre (2Front, Center, 2Rear, Woofer) - Price S$? 4) Thunderstone Karaoke system (http://thunderstonektv.com/viewproducts/) - Need to provide HDD with songs, able to get regular updates.... - Price S$? 5) Sony PS3 or PS4 or Bluray 6) CD player? 7) HD media player 8) Starhub HD Hubstation 9) Apple TV3 10) Soundproofing - Carpet, curtain, door 11) Interconnects What do you think? Any ideas are welcome! Even recommendations on where to get the best deal!!! Thanks. Actually I'm quite clueless how to blend karaoke system with Home theatre system.........Do I need a separate system and the only common thing is TV? Please advise and throw in whatever experiences you have........I believed I'm not the only guy here who are planning to or already setting up such entainment room.

Im running a similar setup and let me run you through what it costs VW95ES around 10k when I bought the VW1000ES will cost u around 30k LX86 will cost you around 3-4k BDP LX55 will cost $420 Soundproofing will cost around $2000 and thats a modest estimate not including heavy set curtains and other paraphernalia Next is your screen. Im running a 110" 2:35 fixed stewart st130 g3 That alone costs 3.5-4k. Your cabling and ics if you want good ones set aside $1000-$2000 Speakers CM9s wont do justice to your vw1000. At least choose 805Diamonds. Thats around 9-10k with stand for front two. Side and centre additional cost maybe another 7-8k if u want 7.1 Did i leave out anything? This is the bare minimum.

Should be around the range of 5k when its out for front 2. 4K is good but not logical to buy now because no source material as of yet.

The 55 is around $350 there as well! ;D That is an export set without warranty and you have no clear way of discerning if its ok after some use. Its heavy so transport costs will have to be considered too even if you hand carry (not possible because box is huge or you check in idk how much extra baggage u have to pay) it runs the risk of damage.
francis wu Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Actually, the savings u will make is good for a 4 days holiday in HKg! ;D I tested my unit and checked it in without paying anything, heck, I did not even pay GST! My 83 is already coming to 2 years old now and is as good as new! ;D
