aegis0129 Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 So Grace Fu correctly quotes South Korea's TFR at 1.23 and claims that it is lower than Singapore, a quick check on google says that Singapore's TFR is 0.78. So what is she comparing to? Our TFR is 1970? http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1256073/1/.html CIA report on TFR, Singapore is lowest in the world! [update] So I did some research on Korean TFR and found this, the numbers for 2011 is in the population section and stands at 1.24. Singapore's numbers for 2012 can be found on the singstat website. Seems like the numbers are close if the official numbers are to be believed, even if there is a difference and Singapore IS higher it is likely to be insignificant. Why do our politicians like to quote numbers and not think about what they really mean, if anything it just means both countries are in a world of sh|t. The Koreans at least have it better they don't have so many immigrants! This reminds me of Kee Chiu saying that incomes for the bottom 10 % have increased, he conveniently left out the fact that the increase is 0.1% per year (adjusted for inflation). Put into context, someone earning $1000 in 2002 would be earning $1010.05 in 2012. The increase is barely enough for carrot cake at Peach Garden!
