I had their album 'Disconnect' on today and it was rather glorious for the genre. The title track, at 13 minutes nails the style to the wall. The guitar playing is pretty damn pure. Almost out Gilmour's Gilmour. They certainly tip their hats and their roots to Pink Floyd and Steven Wilson, but I guess if you want to reach for the top you can learn from the Best and maybe sneak in a few of their ideas. I will agree that some of their songs are very close to the two I have mentioned but I can live with it. The final track 'Returned' has me instantly hearing a PF refrane. Have a listen. I can't quite put my finger on it but to me, it is there. With Floyd gone and SW doing other stuff, as it were, Airbag does fill big shoes. Enjoy Regards Cazzesman Received my copy a week ago. Still in the cd tray. Love it. One of the best albums I've purchased this year. 1 1

What a great album. Still in the tray. Must have played it 20 times already. Must say...it's up there as my favourite album of the year. Though got 3 more albums coming that might just pip it. More on that when they arrive, probably sometime next week. Then l will have a 4 way shoot out. Then. All will be revealed. Ha. Then l will name my 4 favourite prog albums for 2024. Ken 1 1

He's a founding member of...Airbag. Great segue. Have a listen to his album: Everything to Everyone. It's a ripper. Actually, all his albums are exceptional. Ken 1

Just had a listen on Spotify. Like it... Hungarian prog band. Gee. European and Scandinavian prog bands are right up there, aren't they. Also. Ya gotta love an EP that comes in at just over 45 minutes. Ken 2

patjoy Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 IQ are a great band. Dark Matter and The Seventh House are my favourite albums. 1 1
awayward Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 An old favourite that is overdue for a spin, Threshold - March of Progress. 3

The Moodies were in a subset of their own. Some people thought that they had the answers to ALL of THE BIG QUESTIONS. Others thought that they were the epitome of bland. To Our Children's, Children's, Children is (imho) their best work. The above album's high point is I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock 'n' Roll Band). 1

ZEN MISTER Posted November 28, 2024 Author Posted November 28, 2024 Prog-lite !! Progressive rock instigators more like it. Yes, the lyrics are of their time. But the introduction of symphonic washes via mellotron was iconic, and you could draw a direct line from their opus to any prog band in existence . SEVENTH SOJOURN was the last album with Mike Pinder on mellotron duties. If you have a mint pressing, play it often and play it loud. Billy 3
Ian McP Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Gong: who knew they could be this damn funky? Oh well, Daevid Allen (dude who hailed from Oz!) was also a founding member of jazz rock outfit Soft Machine This has a great middle eastern groove. Daevid shows off his glissando guitar technique in this clip. Wouldn't have been out of place at Womadelaide. https://www.progressiveears.org/forum/showthread.php/25846-Daevid-Allen-s-Glissando-Guitar-Technique 2
needlerunner Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Firstly, a Merry Happy Christmas to all the Progsters out there (though l think we a diminishing bunch, to what is:the best genre out there). Secondly, l wanted to post, what l think, what where my favourite purchases this year. So top of the pile is: Weather Systems, Ocean without a Shore. For those that don't know This band is an offshoot of the band Anathema. They have incorporated the same sound signature. But this album is a lot more heavier. Love it. Album #2 is The Pineapple Thief's lt Leads to This. Cracker of an album. They upped their game on this one. Number 3. Airbg's The Century Of The Self. Love every album they have bought out...but this one is except exceptional. Brilliant band. And lastly is, Marillion, their album: An Hour Before It's Dark. Nothing you can say about this band that hasn't been said before (just wish they would come to Australia). They are like a fine red wine-they get better with age. Well that's it folks. Let's have a great 2025. May Prog live forever. Ken 2 2
patjoy Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Off the top of my head these are the albums I enjoyed for 2024 (some prog some “part prog” ) Frost - Life in the Wires Weather Systems - Ocean without a Shire Mono - Oath Delving - All Paths Diverge Legacy Pilots - Thru the Lens Night Verses - Every Sound has a Color in the Valley of Night All the best to my fellow Progsters 3
