dpastern Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I don't wear a watch, haven't for years. I'm usually pretty close to the right time anyways by guessing. Dave
Soultone Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I just fell in love with this. Will never own it, but it is very nice. I am about to get a new Tissot.

I'm Richmond tigers supporter that IWC is the watch for me.Really like this style vintage IWC cira 1950's. The Seiko is a very smooth looking watch.
Soultone Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I can only dream of a IWC, I am really interested in watches does anyone know of any cool watch books?
Two Flies Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Soultone you might try this watch forum, compared to SNA its pretty boring. But has very helpful and knowledgeable members. http://mb.nawcc.org/index.php You should be able to find a watch mag you like among this lot. http://www.thewatchprince.com/Watch-Resources Cheers mcee
Drizt Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Theres some lovely looking watches in here. I must be the odd one out though, I hate wearing watches. They always seem to slip down my wrist, and make it hard to bend my wrist. Freaky I know.
Two Flies Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Sorry for the double post. The IWC pictured above is not mine its owned by a collector in Armidale .
Mick35 Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 I own a couple of nice vintage 50's IWC's, nothing complicated mind you, can't afford that:) I wear them occasionally, but are more of a keepsake than anything

Usually though I prefer a real classic - my Swatch Tintin watch.
Two Flies Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Two 1950's rose gold Crest watches, I've never seen another in my travels. IMO a testimony to how well made these watches were made, the one the left is my everyday work watch, I'm a left handed carpenter so you can imagine the stresses it goes through on a daily basis, when Crest say shockproof they really do mean shockproof, amazingly it keeps time to within a minute, in 24 hours and runs for approx 32 hours once wound not bad for 59 y/o watch. The one the right was a present for my 19 y/o son about 3 years ago, he only wears it on spacial occasions, an Automatic with 36 hour power reserve under 12 o'c position. This watch also keeps perfect time.
Mick35 Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 VERY SYLISH!! MC, just goes to show quality is 'TIMELESS' And 'No' the brand 'Crest' doesn't ring a bell for me A future collectors item IMHO.
Nude Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 M series 16610 Submariner.Takes a beating at work under some pretty adverse conditions and has never missed a beat. Would post a pic if I knew how, however most people know what a stainless submariner looks like anyway. Regards, George Very nice, and extremely apt George Cheers
Two Flies Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Thanks Mick .Funny thing about the work watch I had it serviced about 3 1/2 years ago my watch maker who also sell's vintage and antique watches said he never seen one before.Anyways about 6 months after being serviced, I was in town with my son we dropped by the shop an low and behold he had the Crest auto for sale.Snapped it up there and then.
k-k-k-kenny Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I can only dream of a IWC, I am really interested in watches does anyone know of any cool watch books? Other sites with plenty of info: http://www.timezone.com/ http://www.thepurists.com/ On the purists you have to register to see the pics Lot's of friendly advice and encouragement available on both Beware, though: after a while on either it will no longer seem absurd to think of spending upwards of 15 gorillas on something with only 3 hands that is less accurate than a 50 dollar Casio.
mikizee Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Those Crests look really nice. I can't wear a watch though, they make me feel claustrophobic! Like something's clinging to my wrist that I need to shake off
k-k-k-kenny Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 This is my pride and joy: born 25 June 1956 and faultless

Haha! Been there and done there. Weaned myself off those 2 sites after spending $$ on timepieces. Now i'm here and wasting $$ on turntables and things. Not sure which is worse.
mondie Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 This is my pride and joy: born 25 June 1956 and faultless That is gorgeous, very similar to the Zenith Steve G has had on his site for many years. l have never seen one for sale, but would be sorely temped if l ever did. l too am retired from Timezone, l am content with a small collection that has not changed now for a few years Cheers, mondie

Always a pleasure to view Steve G's superd photos of his watches. Agree with Mondie about the simple and clean look of your vintage Zenith,K-K-kenny.Nice. Have you seen the recent Zenith, their charismatic CEO Thierry Nataf are hell bent on chasing the fashion crowd and some off the wacky monstrosities coming out is disturbing.
