An Interesting short read from Forbes.com about wrist watches.................................................

I have a number of what could be called fine pieces, though one is on my "bucket list"..................

Made by the inventor of the first wrist worn chronograph.

At a mere $1.5m each, an absolute STEAL!!!!!!

I cannot compete in any way with the superlative watches above. I have been a collector for many years but have specialised in modestly priced ,mainly mechanical watches form lesser known houses, around the $350-800 USD figure.

At the moment I am wearing a Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon officially certified chronograph in a limited edition to celebrate the breaking of an olympic skiing speed record by John "Mad Cow" Hembel. IIRC, only 300 were produced.

Hi, i'm off to the US soon and might buy another watch. Any good value for money brands around $1k or less? I was thinking maybe a Hamilton or an Oris.

A 1975 Seiko 5 automatic, in brass, given to me by an ex-RAF Regiment guy who bought the watch when serving in Belize. Sentimental value, and a great watch!

Not quite the same. I'll take a pic & post it up. It's a day/date with days in either French or English. Originally it had a metal wristband, but this hasn't made it thus far.

Has anyone got recommendations for a watch-maker that can service old Seikos in Melbourne? (I have a very old Seiko weekdater)

Thankfully most Seiko movements aren't particularly exotic so most watch repairers can probably get the job done (i.e. refer to service manual) - Edward seems to specialize in Seiko/Citizens.

Great watches in this thread.

I normally rotate between my IWC Pilot Chornograph and Citizen Eco-Dive Chornograph.

Also have a Azimuth Bombadier V which I really love, but hate the onion crown. Need to find a watch maker to change that crown soon.

Dave,

At a guess 40-41mm but would have to measure it. For me its the perfect size and a gorgeous watch, its my favourite. The sold silver dial with blued hands is a thing of beauty. Here's a better shot....
