A fine collection ZSC.

All bases covered.

Shame about the robbery.

+1 !

Love that Broad Arrow Speedy.

Seen the same BA model with a Di Modell sharkskin band with Omega deployment clasp - perfect IMHO....I find the Speedy proportions work on most guy's wrist...both sporty and elegant.

Another vote for the BA, l have had mine for 5-6 years now and never tire of the dial, its a really beautiful watch. l alternate between a blue Hirsch carbon strap, dark brown leather and the original steel band. If l could pick only one watch this would be a serious contender.

Cheers,

Hi, I'm off to Malaysia next week and am keen on buying a new watch. I have my eye on an Oris BC3 advanced and plan to visit the Oris boutique store in KL. Has anyone bought a watch from Malaysia before, are their prices cheaper than here? I know that Oris seem fairly well priced here so may just buy it here. Any other brands similar to Oris I should look out for.

Thanks.

Fortis is probably another brand in that bracket that you might find around KL.

I've got a B-42 Automatic day/date 645.10.12 on my wrist today.

I've also got a Official Cosmonaut day/date 610.22.15

They're both tough as old boots and not a million miles away from the BC3.

What sort of complications are you looking for? I'm guessing day/date with the BC3?

I have had a Longines 'Classique' for many years. Gold band, white face, two hands and thin roman numerals ( 'IIII' for 4). Have been very happy with it - it is a very thin and light watch. It has 'popped' the face twice, generally following a plane flight with cabin pressure changes.

Hint. Don't go to any expensive jewellery shop for a simple repair. If you find a good jewellery shop, keep going there. The watch shop behing Woolworths at Mitcham Shopping Centre (Adelaide) is excellent. The burnside shopping centre is the opposite - the same repair takes forever, and the cost is a many-times multiple!

Agree - finding a reliable good-value watch repairer/service is GOLD .... Omega charges $$$ for a full service (i.e. send back to Switzerland).

Do people send their watches for service every ~2-4 years ??

I am just looking for my first automatic watch with a black dial on rubber band, I don't want a chronograph, a day/date will suffice. I quite like the black (stealth looking) Oris BC3 advanced. Will check out the Fortis website, haven't heard of them before.

Thanks.

Nothing superduper but does the job nicely for me and handles a bit of roughstuff and water with ease.

Citizen Promaster JP3050 200m water resist 100% Titanium and even tells me the current temp lol, best of all it tells me the time though :P

Some nice watches here!

I currently own the following -

(a) Grand Seiko SBGR051 - automatic watch with stainless steel bracelet, not dissimilar to a vintage DateJust or Omega Aqua Terra

(:P Sinn 356 - automatic flieger style watch

© vintage Omega Constellation "Pie Pan" - this is currently being restored

On my wish list is a Submariner, maybe a 5513 reference if my budget can stretch that far. I am a regular diver and while a dive watch is unnecessary equipment these days, I certainly appreciate the history and aesthetic of classic dive watches such as the Submariner and Seamaster.

I would love to own a IWC Portuguese but my 6.5" wrist sadly does not permit this!

5513 is a great watch to own and wear: comfortable, decent history, great proportions (Rolex's recent attempts to BLING sports models for Asian(?) market is woeful IMHO - do I really need continous RolexRolexRolexRolex on the chapter ring ?!

... except 5513 looks like every other cheap fake out there, including other brands copying the design. But that's not necessarily a bad thing to remain inconspicuous esp. when exploring dodgy backward lanes (for hifi of course) - The original Explorer fits that bill nicely.

The nicest thing about the 5513 is the mutual respect one exchanges to owners that appreciate the subtlety and history of vintage Rolex - i.e. one hasn't rushed off to buy the latest model after getting a raise etc.

The Omega SM 300 (NOS stock) is an underated divers watch b/c the markers (esp. on the bezel) glow superbly....better than my Omega Planet Ocean :S

Late last year I pulled out my Breitling from the drawer (it needed a service and was slowing down) and was too lazy to send it to Sydney.

Got it serviced in the city (best not to name any names) but I am getting the impression that when it is fully wound up, it no longer last as long as it used to.

Is it really that crucial that it must go back to the official repairers?

Luckily its just a cheap low end model...

Don't think it NEEDS to go to official repairers unless under warranty or require parts not available elsewhere.

Trouble is I don't trust many repairers to do the right thing - probably why I've waited 9 years before contemplating getting my watches serviced :S

As you can see I am having post repair doubts...

Do you get yours serviced locally? Do send me a PM when you find a moment.

Cheers

I don't mind purchasing a 5513 and people thinking its a fake or homage. I know better! In terms of inconspicous, I own a Grand Seiko - you really can't get more inconspicous than that!

I had a PO but traded it because I found the bracelet too heavy and also a little large (despite it being the 42mm model). I actually prefer the non SEL bracelet on the 5513, although I will probably end up putting it on a Nato strap.

Posted

The PO is indeed weighty and chunky.... me thinks the Omega was trying a bit too hard to create a 'premium' model - you get allot of steel on the PO.

Good luck with finding a nice 5513 - one of these days we may just have to catch-up for a coffee and admire each other's 5513 :P
