Black looks nice also.  ;D

Actually quite surpirsed to see the service manual provided in their website.

It's like giving their competitors an easy time to analyse their design.  ???

But good for those owners who wish to DIY.

I don't think that there is anything "ground-breaking" in any of their designs. Besides, John Westlake, who designed the latest kit, is not exclusively Audiolab. He's designed stuff for many different Hi-Fi companies, like Peacetree and Pink Triangle.

Thanks! Any idea when Audiolab is launching the 8200DQ?

You mean the CDP with the preamp integrated? City didn't have details.

IIRC, there's no HT bypass on the CDQ. The Q (ie preamp alone) does.

Actually, when Audiolab announced the 8200 series earlier in the year, there was supposed to be a DQ model. DAC with pre-amp, without the CD. No mention of it on the website now though.

I know that the CDQ (the model you mentioned) has been delayed too... :(

Think there should be an upcoming pre amp model with balance input?

Otherwise the balance output on the 8200CD wasted on their current range.

Can be used for other brands pre amps/integrated with balance input only.

Edit : Oh, their 8200MB can accept balance and line input straight away...

But the CD has no preamp stage. So you still need the CDQ to pair with the MB

the 8200CDQ and the 8200DQ will both have assignable ht bypass. read from post by designer on pink fish media (lazy to find the link).

Just downloaded the manual. It shows on Pg 9 that there is an HT bypass mode. But it seems to indicate it affects ALL analog inputs? Maybe they mean it is selectable on different inputs.

The design looks interesting... the preamp mode supports both analog and digital volume control modes!!

Oh ya.

So the balance out on the 8200CD is indeed wasted on their current range unless they come out with a ne pre amp with balance input.

So, any owner of the 8200CD/A already? Comments?

ps any idea why the MB is only rated for 250W/8ohm operation? Doesn't it support 4ohm loads?

I didn't realize this until you pointed it out. Then again, the new 8200A is also only rated for 8 ohm loads. I think they just did not bother to rate it for 4 ohms?

I also realize that the language in the manuals look as if it were written in China!  :-X

  • 2 weeks later...

I also have my eyes on the CDQ or DQ which as far as i understand from pink fish media site both are shipping now from china. i asked the dealer here who said CDQ in jan 11 and price of $1600. he has no info on the DQ, but said the new power amps 8200P and 8200M (with balanced input) will come in March 11.

also considering the 8200MB mono blocks which are here - and not out in UK yet.. but many options around this price and would like see some reviews and opinions on them - JW who designed the CD/CDQ/DQ is not very entuthiastic about the power amps for some reason.. if they are similar to the old tag mclaren 250mr's i think they will be very good, but very limited info from audiolab, no 4 ohm rating, 88db s/n etc..

any suggestions for 2 channel power amp around $3-4k with balanced input in to match the 8200CDQ/DQ? Other than Emotiva and the class D's -  Parasound A21, Marantz SM-11S1 ?

the one next to dynaudio has only the old 8000 series and sounded like they will not get the 8200. also pricing seems to be better at SLS.. The old 8000 can bargain prices..

Oh AA ah. Old model leh.

Par Audio is the authorised dealer here anyway.

So will get from them.

But have to wait for the 8200CD to come in. :(

By the way, the price for the 8200CD I checked now is S$1200 inc gst.

Even better value than before. :D
