Just curious, what happens to SHM-SACD which was a rage not so long ago here! ;D  Don't see many people buying them now! :o

 

Now we have DMM-SACD!  What's next, SDMM-SACDs!! ::)

 

3 years down the road, you probably will have 10 Discs on different type of pressing/label of the same album/songs!! :)  No wonder the music industry is still going strong! ;D

Was in Penang and I am surprised to find an audiophile store in Gurney Plaza called Artistes' Gallery. Has a whole section on SACDs and other audiophile formats. Picked up Supertramp and Nirvana's In Utero for S$26 each. Not bad... I wasn't even looking for CDs on the trip  :)

I know Faye Wong's Sky SACD got a lot of flack but I ordered it anyway trying to fill up the order from the hk online site.

 

IMHO it's quite listenable. Definitely sounds more detailed and more textured than the K2HD version.

Rather late in the game for Faye Wong music. Is her Sky SACD that bad?  What is the best version then?

Thanks for speedy response!  Looking at the sky high price of direct cut 1:1, what is the second best version? :)

On another note, are all her SACDs that bad?  You did mention that the Sky SACD is better than the K2HD version.

On my XDS1, yes. The SACD is better.

 

Second best is either SACD or the SHM XRCD2.

Nowaday I no longer trusted the 1:1 direct cut.

 

I once bouight one and could not play.  I return it to what I bought it, a very reputable dealer in HK and to my horror, the gold disc was a blank.

 

He told me he get me a new one....but thinking back it couldn't be a new one.  It took him 5 minutes and he return with the disc , now with pits and playable.

 

He must have burn it in his backroom.

 

Naturally, the disc sounded awful.....

The source of the digital file is dodgy.

And they dun even bother to refresh their computer when they burning a new disc.

 

I listened to the teresa teng 15 anni 1:1 direct cut disc vs my silver rim early pressing version.

The 1:1 lose so horribly.

 

 

 

Yet, some people treat these 1:1 duds like gold from heaven.....

Sorry, I beg to differ on the Theresa Teng 15 Anniversary 1:1 Direct Cut.

 

I bought it when it was first released and it is the best Theresa Teng recording I own. (and I own many).  I would not vouch for the many that came after.
