Based on the Blu Spec albums I have and have sampled, most if not all of the Blu Spec CD titles were copied from the original masters and re-edited. As a result, resolution was improved, sound staging enhanced and dynamic range increased. Yes, this may be the swan song for hard storage formats, but it obviates the need of buying specialised CD players.

I tried the Mariah Carey Blue-Specs disc at DiscVillage. It did not seem to be very much better than the normal CDs.

Going at $40+, it is easily double the price of a regular CD. Don't think it is 2X better though.

Oliva has a SACD release:

Polite stuff, nothing which will test the limits of her voice, but pretty decent for background listening whilst working.

**** beware, the white paper cover is for the CD version - the SACD wrapper is pink in color ****

ah but were you listening to the SACD layer? does this disc comes with multi chn sound too?

If I am not mistaken there is another SACD Deluxe Edition for the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. It's a non SHM disc, do you think it's worth the upgrade?

I got 4 versions of this 1973 album and I have compare them tonight, this is how I rank them:-

Normal CD (1984)

This is the ordinary CD made in 1984, German print.  Comes in a double CD jewel case.

The sound is bright, hard and sure to get fatigue after several tracks.

Mobile Fidelity

Don't know what year this was released.  Made in Japan Gold Disc.

The sound is mellow down in this remastering and is made listenable.  The whole sound felt very bloated up and when compared to the SACD versions, loss of details is very obvious.

Hybrid SACD (2003)

Released in 2003 as a double SACD version, made in USA.  A few months later, there is a upgraded version that includes a DVD.

Smooth, detailed and very pleasant to listen to.  For those who have been listening to this recording through the ages, the new 5.1 multichannel mix is a real threat as you heard instruments and sounds that you will be unfamiliar with.  Must get for all Elton John fans.

SHM SACD (2010 Mid Dec)

Released in Japan in Mid Dec 2010, this is the latest remaster.  SACD played only on SACD player, Stereo only, no CD layer.

This version takes the SACD version further. Vocals, and the various instruments stand out and have spacing between them.  This version sounded the most "analog" of all the 4 versions.  Definitely worth the asking price....sorry...  :)

Are you using direct Amazon.co.jp/DHL or vPost? How about from cdjapan?

You order from Amazon.jp, they will courier for you. Next day, disc will be in your hand. Please don't even bother with Vpost.  They will screw it up for you. Even if you submit invoice, they will idle and needlessly make you wait 3 days before they acknowledge your invoice.

SHMSACD too precious to allow Vpost handle it....

This was already on sale at Blue Max early 2010 for $29.90. Bot it and found out that there is no sound emitting from the left surround channel Wen I play on Dts hd-MA 5.1. Brought back to change but still the same. Guess it's a manufacturing fault. PQ is grainy 3/5 and SQ is to my ears 3/5. And one more thing, when it loaded on my player it says bd-rom so if anybody is wanting to get this, try importing it.
