Tod Dockstader -Aerial # 1. Dockstader recorded the sounds found in between the radio stations and fed them through a computer and the result is this.Reminds me of my childhood listening to thoseouter limit sounds on the short wave frequency

Jazz? Electronic? Ambient? Noise? It's really good nonetheless. The track Santa Teresa is a good place to start.

I'd just call it electronic. Good album though. I like it much more than his Uusitalo/Luomo (except for Vocalcity) etc releases.

My favourite album of his that I have is "Ele", especially the opening track "Pisa". It's one of my all time favourite pieces of electronic music. I've also just purchased a couple of the earlier ep releases which I missed out on back during the late 90s via his bandcamp page.

Wow. I don't consider my music tastes to be too "weird, avant-garde or 'out there'", although that said, almost no-one I know has ever heard of or listens to anything I do. However, I come in here and am recognising stuff all over the place(!), and you guys are ~all fellow Aussies too!

From what I've seen in this thread, I particularly like: Arve Henriksen (and that whole Scando crew, including Jan Bang), Jon Hassel and Bill Laswell.

Not sure what to add from my collection... Nothing immediately comes to mind as "weird, avant-garde or 'out there'" (except The Heliocentrics' album literally titled Out There), so I might just say Lifeforms by Future Sound of London, for the sake of it. It's my all-time favourite and I'd be (ecstatically) surprised if I found something which surpassed it.

I struggle with definitions, but you might say this is Electronic/Ambient/Psychedelic. For me, it's an amazing blend of artificial and organic sounds from primitive jungles to hyper-mechanical cities of the future. It has an awesome range (in tempo, texture, sounds etc.) and can be both haunting and ecstatic. It's completely otherworldly and just beautiful to my ears/being. It might be a bit of an 'acquired sound' (as I guess a lot of this stuff is), but I highly recommend it. Definitely the kind of album you listen to from start to finish, maybe with an intermission if you need it.

Jim O'Rourke - The Visitor 2009.  Album length composition.  As my gear grows, so does my enjoyment of all of the sounds in here.  I've always enjoyed his stuff more that any of his collaborations, but then I bet I haven't heard them all!

Time to bring this thread back from the dead!

I have been listening to Keiji Haino- I said This is the Son of Nihilism. Got the CD  for $1 from the tip shop, I recognised his name only from his album with Pan Sonic. This CD was not what I was expecting at all and I was completely spellbound. Someone has put the whole thing up on YouTube

Rabih Beaini (aka Morphosis) - Albidaya (He runs Morphine Records, put out some excellent stuff, fans of PAN records will dig)

-Not sure quite how to describe this LP, experimental jazz with electronics, inspired by middle eastern folk music, sun ra and alice coltrane... Recorded in one day in 2012. Highly recommended.

Great thread, how have I missed it?

This is one of my favorites from the past few years. Their cover of schizoid man is great - although it's hard not to do a decent version of that song!
