sligoriverblues Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 I'm quite fascinated by this guy's work... Not that it is groundbreaking or anything but I like Morton Feldman and La Monte Young and this music kind of flows in that stream... Must be one of my favorite discoveries of this year. Quote: "The entirety of Origin's musical material is comprised of the vibrating strings of Pitre's ensemble of bowed "harmonic-guitars," which are unconventionally strung electric guitars (utilizing multi-unisons) tuned to intervals corresponding with the Harmonic Series, a.k.a. Just Intonation. No effects processing (pre or post) was used in this recording. All effect-like qualities result from the multi-unison strings (phasing), sympathetic vibrations, combination/difference tones (of the chosen just tuning), and natural acoustic phenomena as such." Duane Pitre - Origin (Root Strata LP) 1

houdinifangs Posted August 24, 2012 Author Posted August 24, 2012 Drums and Cello duo on the Constellation label. Lots of scraps and noises. 1
sligoriverblues Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 William Parker Quartet - Petit Oiseau (Aum Fidelity LP) Much better looking than the CD version, I think. Now, let's hear it. I have my hopes high... 1
sligoriverblues Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Mohel - Babylon Bypass (Tyyfus LP) This to Coleman Hawkins is what Napalm Death is to Deep Purple... Three saxophones and a drummer fire and brimstone music! 1
sligoriverblues Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Cornelius Cardew - We Sing For The Future & Thälmann Variations (Doxy LP) Piano: Frederic Rzewski 1
htm_1968 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I can give a strong recommendation to the first three albums released by the Deep Distance label (http://www.greatpopsupplement.com/deepdistance.html). I believe that you can still buy copies on eBay but the releases are largely sold out in record shops. Essentially each album consists of experimental electronica motivated by label owner Dom's love "love of all things motorik and kosmische". I can also heartily recommend the releases on the main Great Pop Supplement label, both in terms of wierdness of some of the music and the sheer beauty of the records Dom produces. The artwork is phenomenal. Each release is usually capped at around 500 copies and sells out instantly. The resale values for early GPS releases are insane (if that kind of thing matters to you). If you are a fan of Krautrock/Motorik then the upcoming album by Eat Lights, Become Lights on GPS will be just the thing for you. I can also recommend recent releases by GNOD (Chaudenland Vol 1 and 2) Carlton Melton (Smoke Drip) and Kandodo (Kandodo) for sheer bloody minded out thereness.

houdinifangs Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 Coolest picture disc in my collection. More info on the artist - he is wanted by the Dannish police! http://rhizome.org/editorial/2011/nov/16/goodiepals-plot-educate-ai/ 1
Two Flies Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 There are not enough hours in my day to listen to what I know, let alone what I don't.
Vortexjah Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Coolest picture disc in my collection. More info on the artist - he is wanted by the Dannish police! http://rhizome.org/editorial/2011/nov/16/goodiepals-plot-educate-ai/ Nice pic HF, thought it was an album cover until I read your description. The video in that link just blew my mind, crazy.
houdinifangs Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 (edited) Percussionist who has recorded with the Secret Chiefs 3. Solo percussion explorations, very good recording, lots of close mic stuff. I find this really dreamy/surreal. Would go nicely with some absinthe and the browned, torn pages of a classic penguin edition Kafka or Lautreamont. Edited September 23, 2012 by houdinifangs 2

Ah Houdi, I can imagine you in a previous life laying back with opium pipe resting gently on bottom lip, listening to the sound of a Himalayan zephir stirring the wind chimes into a hazy, narcotic melody...... 2
Soundscape Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 This cd just in the mail from Germany Noto/Sakamoto & Ensemble Modern - utp_ Alva Notos intriguing soundscapes are the setting for spare & beautiful piano and string ensemble accents. Very trippy stuff... I'm drifting away here.......................... 1

k-k-k-kenny Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 (edited) Is this out there or just absurd?: 3 accordionists, drum machine & effects doing Kraftwerk covers for the most part. Just goes to show that winters are long and cold in Finland and can do funny things to your head. This is not a recommendation ... Edited October 6, 2012 by k-k-k-kenny 1 1
sligoriverblues Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Deep Listening Band - Octagonal Polyphony (Important Records LP)
sligoriverblues Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Jozef Van Wissem & Jim Jarmusch - The Mystery Of Heaven (Sacred Bones LP) Fortunately, this is not just a curiosity for the Jim Jarmusch movie fans. I missed the previous collaboration on the Important Records label, which I'm not happy about. 2
sligoriverblues Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 djTrio - 21 September 2002 (Cuneiform LP) Amazing example of turntable musicianship! Christian Marclay, DJ Olive and Toshio Kajiwara show that there's much more to DJing than just being able to adjust speed. Admittedly, I listen to this when Elissa's not around 1
rotur Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Subtle, ethereal, cerebral mash ups of the orchestral works of Debussy. For fans of minimalism. You mean...like Debussy?? Have a problem with this kind of thing, but I'm an old fart. Having said that the Steve Reich remix album a few years back was an interesting exercise
