Hi all,

Need some opinions please...  Am debating between the two items above for my bedroom, and can probably spend on only one of the two items above.  We listen to primarily vocals and current intention is to hook it up to a SB3.

Appreciate some thoughts or ideas.  Thanks.

what equipment do you already have? one's a DAC and one's an amp, so they're not comparable substitutes. in fact, they are complementary; you connect one to the other  ;D

so not too sure what you are trying to achieve.

My budget is for a SB3 plus a pair of speakers and only one of the two items.

Already splurged on a HT, so not much budget left.  I am actually leaning towards the amp.

i see. i'm not too familiar with the squeezebox, but if it provides a line output, you'll probably need the amp anyway to connect to the speakers. are you considering the xindak dac because you're planning to bypass the BBs in the SB?

finally, do make sure that your EL84 amp has enough juice to drive whatever speakers you're planning on getting.

Well, actually, i don't know how to bypass the bb in the sb.  I was going to do just line out from the sb to a line in on the xindak...  :P  i am not a techie in that respect...  any ideas?

Am considering between these two amps:

the 2nd amp has twice the power output of the first, and double the number of inputs, so depending on your speakers, this might be a better bet. however, do take your speaker's sensitivity into account.

also, since you haven't heard either the xindak or the SB, are you sure that the Xindak DAC will definitely sound better than the one in the SB? otherwise, it'll be quite a waste.

We have wired the place with LAN cables and have a huge chunk of data on a NAS.  So, SB3 is a clear first choice at the moment...

you might want to amend your thread title to yaqin amp instead of yanli amp.  ;D

also, since you have the budget for either a DAC or your amp, let me make a suggestion.

i too have quite a bit of data on a NAS, and am using my 6 year old mac powerbook laptop to connect to my USB DAC, instead of a digital solution like the squeezebox.

if you have a little used or old laptop lying around, considering using that as a player, connecting between your NAS data and the DAC, and then the DAC to the amp.

That way, you can save on the squeezebox and buy both the amp AND the DAC.  ;D

if you plan to go this route, let me know if you have any questions and i'll try to help. I can't remember if the Xindak has a USB in though .. it will really help if it does.

Also, since bro francis has kindly offered his Xindak for a listen, do pop by; it'll help greatly in making a more informed decision.  :)
