Speedsun Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Lets cheers for our SGP table tennis team for bring back a Silver medal !!!! Hopefully a GOLD medal if they got lucky again ;D ;D
Spunky Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I wonder how many of the ping pong teams in olympics2008 do not have at least 1 china-born player!! :)
lewlian Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Felt good to be able to let out a cheer for SGP after enduring countless ones from local colleagues whenever China won something. ;D
alcapone Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Lets cheers for our SGP table tennis team for bring back a Silver medal !!!! Hopefully a GOLD medal if they got lucky again ;D ;D the china traitors, or the china division 2 team living in singapore?
MC_Hammer Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Our Flag Bearer Li Jia wei should be dropped from the Finals squad ! :'(
lewlian Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 the china traitors, or the china division 2 team living in singapore? might want to go back to that "well" of yours...
enthrone Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Felt good to be able to let out a cheer for SGP after enduring countless ones from local colleagues whenever China won something. ;D Guess u must be pretty sick after enduring 40 tauntings as of now? http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/INF/GL/95A/GL0000000.shtml
silencer13 Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Sorry, but I don't see anything to be proud of.... it's like Chelsea 'buying' the title. Yesterday I was at a restaurant, and the Chinese cook said it best - 'Quan bu dou shi zhong guo ren' - They are all Chinese nationals.
lewlian Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Guess u must be pretty sick after enduring 40 tauntings as of now? http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/INF/GL/95A/GL0000000.shtml Nah... why would they be taunting me? What I meant was the fact they cheered whenever they won something, which was natural. At least it was my turn earlier. Matter of fact they were also fairly supportive of any Chinese playing in other teams (so long as its not against China but that's to be expected).
enthrone Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Here's a fact that will surprise many. Our last Olympic silver medalist, Tan Howe Liang is also an ex-Chinese national, born in Swatow before coming over to S'pore.
SiriuslyCold Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 check out the Womens top 20 players (ITTF rankings) http://www.ittfranking.com/gen/world/worldW_en.htm re the Dutch, Austrian and American players.. ;) the top 100 list is even more revealing. I suspect Chinese girls are brought up and sent out into the world to play table tennis for everyone else

f_spider Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Yup .........a system that seemed to work wonders man.... Maybe a reshuffle in d CABINET....... Include Chinamen too......... Starting wif WKS perhaps
Ong Hai Peng Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 the top 100 list is even more revealing. I suspect Chinese girls are brought up and sent out into the world to play table tennis for everyone else And they kept the best of the best to themselves knowing that they can continue to dominate! Honestly yesterday was one of the rare occasion where I was excited by a table tennis match! What a game!
Jagdpanzer Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Frankly, I don't feel proud at all. I can also see that not many Singaporeans are cheering too. These are bought players from China. They could have bought sprinters from Afrika and use them to represent Singapore. If these chinese players were trained here when they were in primary school... Like Tao Li, then their acheivements will certainly do us proud.
joamonte Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Aiyoh.....to me its no different weather they are from China or not, all of the chinese in Singapore parent or grandparent are from China anyway.. And not to forget, quite some of country also use China imported player (US , Hong Kong, Koera.....etc etc) , but how come only Singapore to get into final? that at least proof that either we able to attract foreign talent better , or Singapore training envoironment is better?? (I doubt so somehow::) ...) The only thing I feel not too happy is why they reward them $750000 for the medal? Wasnt wining medal in Olympic suppose to be a ultimate goal for all sportman/ woman?? If there is a sponsership is for someone who give out their other career/Job for Olympic training I can understand, but those woman are professional player who play TT as career...! Think of how the $750000 can use in better way for the poorer in our country..... :-\
scoobydoo Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Eh guys, don't like that lah. We should be thankful for their contributions. Oh yes, haven't u notice lately, there's almost hardly any stray dogs around anymore

Whatever you are displeased with you can voice out but that comment was definitely not warranted. Climb down from the high horse or crawl out of the hole sometimes. May do you good and broaden your views.
Speedsun Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 Tho i think SGP beating China is an almost impossible feat nevertheless i still keeping my fingers cross..who knows ;D

Oh yes, haven't u notice lately, there's almost hardly any stray dogs around anymore Believe it or not, this was posted by a friend of mine who was here last night watching EPL.
lewlian Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Believe it or not, this was posted by a friend of mine who was here last night watching EPL. No offense mate. Well in that case, my comments are directed at that person.
Chowbotak Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 With this foreign import trend spreading all over the world, it has become quite meaningless for me to watch international sporting events. Watch porfesernal one kau liao ;D
SiriuslyCold Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 perhaps what could be pointless is the nationalistic fervor. individual competition is still valid, I guess (provided a level playing field) actually aren't they all pro athletes nowadays? (ITTF has a pro-tour etc. come to think of which, all the $ in the ITF pro-tour would flow back into CN eventually ;D )
desray Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 I shared the same sentiments with some bros here...I dun really feel the 'excitement' even when our Singapore Table Tennis team enter into the finals. Period. Oh btw...do you think the table-tennis team will play 'extra hard' if there's no "HUGE" monetary incentive attached to this event? Hmmm....
Jagdpanzer Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Frankly, almost every pure blooded Singaporean born here I know have the same comments. If not for the monetary incentive and the option to be both Singaporean and Chinese national, it will be an entire story. For them, there is really nothing much to lose. Our last silver medalist was also from China, but he was raised as a kid and trained from scratch here. This is no EPL or European League or French Open. This is Olympic - a national pride.
