petetherock Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Aim: As part of XP's purpose to perpetuate knowledgde and share info. I hope to compile the settings, run in settings, service meu access for all brand of TVs Sometimes the info is buried inside long threads and the same question gets asked again, esp by newbies who don't bother to search. Hence I hope forummers will contribute their settings here, but leave individual TV discussions in their respective brands threads. Cheers DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, esp when accessing the service menu - try not to change anything Pioneer Settings forum: http://www.controlcal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=49
petetherock Posted July 24, 2008 Author Posted July 24, 2008 running-in setting suggested at the Pioneer FAQ website: http://www.pioneerfaq.info/english/plasmatv.php?player=Plasma-TV&question=Running_In To summarise those running-in settings (items in bold are most important): Main Menu: AV Selection: User Contrast: 15 to 20 (this is the killer bit for running in) Brightness: -10 to 0 (lower is better, but it's your call as to what is reasonable to watch). Brightness should be set to the point where you can't see the pixels starting to emit light in dark parts of the image. Having brightness too high is unlikely to cause any issues during run in except make the image look washed out. Contrast is the killer not brightness. Color: -10 to -5 (lower is better, but it´s your call as to what is reasonable to watch). Most people never go below -10. Tint: 0 Sharpness: -9 to -3 Pro Adjust: Pure Cinema: OFF (for progressive source) & STANDARD (for interlaced source) Film Mode: ADV Text Optimization: Off Intelligence: Off Picture Detail: DRE Picture (Dynamic Contrast): OFF (very important) Black Level: Off ACL: Off Gamma: 2 Color Detail: Color Temp: MID-LOW or if you want to MID depending on preference for white balance (the default colour temp is very cyan) CTI: Off Color Space: 2 Other: I-P Mode: 1 Noise Reduction: 3DNR: Off or Low Field NR: Off Block NR: Off Mosquito NR: Off Power Control: Power Save Mode: Save 2 Play video games using the "GAME" mode (under AV Selection) for the screen, and try not to play them for more than a couple of hours at a time

petetherock Posted July 24, 2008 Author Posted July 24, 2008 Pioneer PDP4270XD Settings The following settings were calibrated for HD broadcast and HD DVD performance via HDMI input in a dark viewing environment. There are several reasons why they won’t work for you, as they can all affect `final’ picture quality. Personal preference Ambient light Source material Player Intramodel variation General Contrast 0 Brightness 2 Colour 0-10 Tint 0 Sharpness -3 Pro Adjust PureCinema ADV – for HD movies Standard – for DVD movies Off – with video material, or if you’re experiencing artifacts with the above modes Colour temperature Manual R High +1 G High 0 B High +1 R High 0 G High 0 B High -7 CTI Off Colour management R -8 Y 0 G +7 C -7 B 0 M 10 Colour Space 2 Intelligent Colour Off Noise Reduction All Off Dynamic Range Expander Dynamic Contrast Off Black Level Off ACL Off Gamma 3 Intelligent DRE Off If the contrast control is set too low for you, you may try the following settings: Contrast ~20 Gamma 2 for daylight and 1 for dark viewing conditions Colour temperature Low On our measurements, these changes boosted the contrast ratio but incurred a greyscale penalty above 80 percent stimulus. For SD broadcast, I tend to make a few further adjustments given the wide quality of material. Colour 0 to 10 Colour space 1 Sharpness higher than -3 Digital noise reduction Low to Mid MPEG noise reduction Low to Mid Don’t worry if all this doesn’t make any sense. I want to encourage you to experiment with these settings, knowing what they do and how they affect picture quality. That’s what so great about a TV like this. You get to tell the TV how they should show pictures and not the other way around. In the end, your eyes will be the judge.

petetherock Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 There are a few companies in SG who do this. But rather than approach them directly, when you get your new panel, ask them for advice. Previously all Pioneers came with 2 free ISF visits, each would cost about $250. Also do it after the run in, which should be at least 100 hrs but a good idea would be 200 hrs. You will need to calibrate for day and night unless you have a constant illumination in your HT room. Not every brand allows for ISF calibration.
petetherock Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 Why can't people use the search button or do a little homework.... petetherock Posted March 15, 2009 Author Posted March 15, 2009 Work in progress, I am finding suitable settings and will post more here. EDIT: Finding out the number of hours: This requires a complicated method with a USB drive, so I recommend CAUTION when attempting this: http://www.controlcal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=120 You need to use this Special ControlCAL Display Profile. This ControlCAL Display Profile does require ControlCAL to be Registered or greater. You can get a Registered Activation Key and/or additional Display Profile Activated http://www.controlcal.com/register.html. Make sure you specify your Pioneer Display Model Number in the Comments Field or by using the Contact Form. Make sure to write that you want the 9G Kuro TV Special Display Profile Activated. You will need a DB9 Female to DB9 Female serial cable (straight-through) and possibly a Keyspan USB to serial adapter. More information HERE. WARNING: Do not use the REFRESH Button. You agree to use this Display Profile at your own risk!!! IMPORTANT: DO READ THE README WITHIN THE ZIP BEFORE USING THIS DISPLAY PROFILE! TO CHECK HOURS: Start with the Display in Standby/Off and use the POWER ON Button in the Display Profile!!!!! After Pressing the SM ON Button in the Profile: INFORMATION page is displayed. Then use the down arrow on your display's remote control to page through to page 5. PANEL = the time the set has been on. MTB = the time the set has been plugged in. Press the SM OFF Button to exit the SM. IMPORTANT: DO READ THE README WITHIN THE ZIP BEFORE USING THIS DISPLAY PROFILE! petetherock Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 From Ultimate AV: Settings Unit-to-unit sample variations, the viewing environment, and the source might render these settings less than optimum. We strongly recommend that you confirm the results on your sample by using a good display setup DVD to get as close as possible to an optimum picture short of a full calibration. The latter is best left to a trained and properly equipped technician, such as those certified by the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) or THX. Unit-to-unit sample variations, the viewing environment, and the source might render these recommendations less than optimum. They are provided only as a useful starting place. We strongly recommend that you confirm the results on your sample by using one of the many display setup DVDs that are available, such as Digital Video Essentials. This will help you to set the user video controls correctly. The settings here that are most likely to translate reliably from one sample to another are those involving specific features, such as Color Space, Gamma, and Noise Reduction. The ones likely to translate less well are the Custom Color Temperature settings. Precision tools, used by an experienced calibrator, are still required to precisely dial in the color temperature and, in this case, make use of the ISFccc feature. petetherock Posted December 10, 2009 Author Posted December 10, 2009 Not everyone uses their flatscreen in a single lighting condition. Day and night settings simply mean that you have setting for conditions in which the room light differs. Some new tvs have an automatic sensor, but it can be fooled by rapidly evolving light conditions. If you have consistent lighting conditions for day and night, you can get professional help - that means you PAY... to set it up properly. Pioneer is one of the brands which allows this. Its call ISF calibration, and there is a company which specialises in this locally.
spyder Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Pioneer is one of the brands which allows this. Its call ISF calibration, and there is a company which specialises in this locally. I was not aware of any company providing specialized calibration services, especially in the field of video. But increasingly, I noticed higher-end models ( with higher-end pricing naturally >:( ) such as Pioneer Kuro's PDPs and now JVC's RS series projectors being certified not only by THX, but also by ISF. ;) petetherock, you mentioned a company in Singaland providing this service. Who are they and are they fully qualified and licensed??? I do not want to pay good $$ for some clowns claiming they know how to do it but is nothing but a lot of hot air. Care to share what you know about them?
petetherock Posted December 20, 2009 Author Posted December 20, 2009 The name of the company is in the Pioneer thread, I gotta go look for it, you can have a dive into it too. Previously ISF calibration was offered for all Pioneers.
spyder Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 The name of the company is in the Pioneer thread, I gotta go look for it, you can have a dive into it too. Previously ISF calibration was offered for all Pioneers. Went thru the Pioneer thread and found the name "Barefoot Tech" mentioned. Is this the appointed ISF company calibrating for all Pioneer Kuros. Is this the correct company? Tried to Google them but found none associated with ISF calibration??? Check ISF website but their name was not listed. The certified ISF-trained companies in Singapore are: Advance Synergy Auvi Pte Ltd ( not sure if still exist ) Benz Audio Visual Specialist Bilcon Technology ( defunct ) Elpa International ( bankrupt ) Entheos LLp JVC Asia Pte Ltd Ong Radio International Pte Ltd Sound Decisions Pte Ltd So who knows Barefoot Tech????
armoury Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Barefoot Tech are the guys who do wall-mounted installation on subcontract basis from Pioneer, i.e. when you first buy and want your plasma wall-mounted, Pioneer subcons to them to install. I did ask them once and they said ISF calibration is $250. I've never actually engaged them to calibrate, though.
