i believe vcd is mainly for children's cartoon...

After getting used to the quality of BD, you can still stand the PQ of vcd?

Why wear out the laser of a high-end and expensive BD player playing VCDs when they could be played on cheap dvd players costing <$50 ?  ???

Hi Friends

any player in the market that can do this? Is it BDP-1500?

Thanks

I'll try to answer your questions....

If I'm not wrong all Hi-Def players (i.e. Blu-Ray, HD-DVD) couldn't play VCD. Even the hi-end SD-DVD players (e.g Oppo 983) doesn't play VCD too.

Edit: Oppo 983 can play VCD. Thanks to Darthfunk's verification  :)

As to which Blu-Ray players can play SD DVDs from all regions (i.e. region free)....

1) Samsung 1400 (may need firmware upgrade if it isn't region free out of the box)

2) Pioneer BDP-LX70 (an expensive player though)

My parents complains that why my so call "hi-end" player couldn't even play VCD  :-\. Why sooo "lousy" :-[ I've got a hard time explaining to them. Even till today, they are still complaining cos they have lots of HK & Taiwan serials passed over from friends/relatives and most importantly wedding VCD of my sibilngs/relatives.

:o First time I hear that a SD-DVD player cannot play VCD.

My Oppo 980 has no problem luckily.

Another Blu-Ray player that's all-region is LG BH200. Will also play HD-DVD as well.

VCD is not in their specification page but since pschia says that the 980 plays VCD I would assume the 983 will do too.

Yup, I didn't see it in their specification that's why assumed it can't play VCD.

I have tried on both 983 and 980 they can definitely play VCD.

Thanks for the confirmation. (corrected my post above  :))

So, getting another player and most like would be a 981.
