laialpha Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Sorry if I sound like a noob, I was just wondering is there any difference between the SVS Box and Cylinder Sub? Example like the PC12-NSD and the 25-31/20-39 PCi.
Yeek Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Yo, Check out SVS' faq: http://www.svsound.com/questions-faqs.cfm#cylinderorbox On top of what they stated, I think some forumers said that the cylinder subs do not come with a protection circuit (to auto cut off when you drive the sub too hard). Yeek
laialpha Posted July 20, 2008 Author Posted July 20, 2008 Thanks for the FAQ link. I think it will help me make a better decision.
Guest jonlee Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 In summary, for a same price box and cylinder, the cylinder will perform better. For those who want the best and has space for it, go for the ultra boxes...
Jag Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Get the one that fits your needs as well as your partner's needs. Either way, the difference between the cylinders and box is negligible to ponder over which one sounds better. Hint: Ask SVS directly on which is better. Chances are, they will say the same thing.

My partner don't really care, I just need it to take abuses from my kids and when my irobot is cleaning the house. I think my kids will be less curious to see a PB as compared to a PC. As for performance wise, I am no audiophile so I doubt I will be able to tell the difference and yes SVS told me that performance are basically the same between equivalent sub like PB12-NSD and 25-31/20-39 PCi. Although the PC is cheaper and lighter as compared to equivalent PB. I think I am leaning more towards the form factor of the PB as I can put things on top of it. Ultra will be too big for my flat. Thanks for all the advise.

Thanks for all the advise. Well, SVS has said basically the same performance. You said you prefer the PB form factor. You've just answered yourself as to which one to go for. Hope this helps.

My partner will complains that my movie is too loud when I uses -20db on my 705.
