hdbtrash11 Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Sp-a800b -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Got mine today and calibrated it. I also have the JVC RS2. The Sammy is much sharper than the RS2 (convergence errors from 3 chip hurt and chormatic abberrations), but the RS2 has better blacks. The Sammy is also spot on after calibration for color, grey scale and gamma vs the JVC which is oversaturated on Red and Green. With the IRIS wide open on a 7' Studio Tek 130, getting 24fl on 100IRE pattern @ 6500K. Need to watch more movies with starlight scenes to really determine the differences. Unfortunately, the RS2 causes some form of interference when it is on that causes the Sammy to "shake". Some how there must be some frequency from the fan that is causing something to vibrate in the Sammy. Turning off the RS2 solves the shake problem, but then that makes it impossible to do side by side comparisons through the Radient HDMI distributor. The lense is also superior on the Sammy (best I have seen -- better than the Marantz VP11S1) with the least amount of chromatic abberation i have seen on any consumer PJ. Now if the Sammy could just have the same contrast ratio without using an automatic iris, it would be the best PJ on earth. The Sammy provides a super sharp picture, accurate gamma, grey scale and color primaries but looses to the JVC on contrast. However, it still looks spectacular and on "normal" scenes the ANSI contrast is largely not detectible between the Sammy and the JVC. The other drawback with the Sammy is no R/L lense adjustment like the JVC has. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=971633
