hi.....all

Total newb here..........................................., I'm new to this so be gentle.......................

my missus doesn't want the speakers on the stands so Im after small satellites rear speakers

as i want to put up on the wall as I am sitting close to the back wall, but importantly they need to

work n blend in with my front speakers,at the monent i got PMC DB1 at the front, quite old but they

are good enough for me.currently i eyeing the M&K  K5 or MP-6 speakers, had a look at What Hi-Fi

and they seemed to give positive feedback, but consider M&K speakers given recent events at the company,

i not too sure whether ................

can anybody please help out with any reasonably priced ones,to consider which will go with tre front...........

Any thoughts/opinions/questions gratefully received

thanks for helping

cheers

Thankyou for your input ,petetherock .very gratefull.

Does no one have an opinion on MK speaker?Kind interested to hear how MK rates in 'ears' of a true audiophile.I guess I am still looking for someone to tell me how MK stacks up against the KEF's, Mission's, etc...................More for curiosity than anything else I guess...........................

I'll keep searching on, but any other thoughts welcome. Cheers. ;D ;D

Hi 5420,

I've had my K5/K9 since 2001, adding a pair of K4s in 2004.  And they've been reliable/durable since then - no driver surround deterioration whatsoever.  The sound produced is excellent, especially fast and clear when watching movies (I switched L/R channels with my other speakers).

You might also consider the tri-pole K4 if it's only for surround use.  For vocals and integration(100Hz roll-off) with the subwoofer, the Ks should be better than tiny satellites.  But for music listening, the vocals are not better than my dedicated stereo speakers(Epos14, Tannoy 609, Royd Sapphire, Ariston Q), being slightly thin/bright even when using with the K9 subwoofer.  So though they're good, I don't use them in my stereo system.

It also has the advantage of a higher power rating compared to many speakers of this size.

Cheers.

Bro, you are using PMC, so don't expect the small satellites can match with those monsters.

And you are using a combined receiver powering up those PMCs, you must have missed a lot of things these years...Only 87db

Maybe time to change the whole systems...

BTW, where can we still find M&K? Have been looking for S150, but nothing...

Thought CD Acoustic is still the agent?

Hi, Frank

thanks.certainly helpful...........appreciate :D

cheers :D :D

No prob.  If I'd known you as a friend, I'd have probably lent you a pair of K5s to help you decide :).

Anyway, personally, I'm never keen on having different speakers for a HT system(not even for surrounds). You'd probably thought of that considering your system which seems well-balanced.  I've ever listened to a system which was more costly than mine, yet seemed lacking in its surround effects(they were using tiny rear Elac speakers to partner 2910, Marantz1500, Wharfedale SW150, Mission M31).  Mine then were entry-level front-ends Sony dvd, Marantz4200 and these speakers.  My system sounded more cohesive.

Er.. the K5 is not exactly small, measuring 19 x 12.5 x 14 cm (hwd), which is not far from your PMCs(29 x 16 x 23, I think).  So some camouflaging is still required, especially if the speakers are black on white walls.

Cheers.

hi.bro frank,floater..

Interesting comment........certainly appreciate it.

yeah,I know that using those Jap. AV amp. to drive my 5 little monsters plus my Sunfire sub.....maybe I asking a bit too much,haa.....haa.... ;D....but that my currently entry level HT system.can't expect too much........

PMC recommended amp power for DB1 between 40 to 100watts.May be (only may be, cause I haven't tried) some high power solid amp (200W+) may do the work alright, but the price for such an amp and the maintenance is quite significant.if budget allow could buy an amp to matched speakers (to add to the already burgeoning collection), but then there's the wife........ :( ha...ha...

Also, with my kids around,my wife wasn't pleased with the speakers all around our tiny five rooms HDB living hall.so that why I need a good, solid surround speaker that can blend in well with my front......would appreciate some help and sorry this is so long. :o

Cheers. ;D ;D
