Gideon Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Would appreciate if you could share some of the reference SACD Multichannel CDs in terms of the following:- 1) vocal clarity 2) sentimental song wtih music 3) only in English and/or Chinese songs with music 4) great multi channel sound 5) great dynamic instrumental sound Thanks. :)
SiriuslyCold Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Carpenters Singles 1969-1981 not sure if you'd consider Beck's Sea Change "sentimental" (it's certainly depressing) but the production and multichannel are awesome. Also, sentimental knocks out Dark Side of the Moon, Avalon and Brothers in Arms (multichannel reference discs, to me)
armoury Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Also, sentimental knocks out Dark Side of the Moon, Avalon and Brothers in Arms (multichannel reference discs, to me) Agree DSotM and BiA are reference multichannel (I don't have Avalon). DSotM in particular. I dunno, some might consider Brothers In Arms (the song) sentimental. Or Us & Them. ;D
outofthebox Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Any of these two assorted SACDs could be a good starting point. I don't listen much to Chinese stuff but yesasia.com has a fair bit of SACD titles in that genre (and good prices too).
SiriuslyCold Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 ypu can also look on SA-CD.net and select by genre
Summer Jazz Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Would appreciate if you could share some of the reference SACD Multichannel CDs in terms of the following:- 1) vocal clarity 2) sentimental song wtih music 3) only in English and/or Chinese songs with music 4) great multi channel sound 5) great dynamic instrumental sound Thanks. :) I think Avalon by Roxy Music is great. Track 4 is instrumental with the sound panning around the 5 speakers (in a clockwise direction). http://www.amazon.com/Avalon-Roxy-Music/dp/B00009KSEZ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1215912796&sr=1-1 As for Beck's Sea Change, is it only available in DVD-audio? http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Change-Beck/dp/B0000Z80HU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1215913062&sr=1-3

SiriuslyCold Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Is it available locally? What's the price? Thanks! I bought it @ Gramophone a long time ago - can't remember price (probably $29?) not sure if its still in stock.
Summer Jazz Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Thanks for the information. Sample some of the tracks, indeed his voice sounded depressing. Lonesome tears is nice though.
