armoury Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 The PQ of this movie is actually pretty good. It goes grainy whenever the men go to war, so as not to depict war in a positive light, but when they interview the veterans, it is as good as any other film. Even in the main movie, when they are in Salzburb for example, the scenery and background is super. I just watched ep 1 last night. One oddity I noted was that in the scene in Col. Sink's office when he was talking to Capt. Sobel, shots of Sobel were rather grainy, whereas shots of Sink were not. Presumably they were using different cameras on each actor, and/or maybe different film stock, but the difference was quite stark, and I couldn't think of any artistic reason for there to be a difference.
petetherock Posted December 24, 2008 Author Posted December 24, 2008 Bro you should really read first, this info has been posted at least thrice... Anyway, did you all know Col Sink is a real solider, they hired him as an advisor, but decided to include him in the story. guys, now is $37.49 at Amazon!

Alpc Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Anyway, did you all know Col Sink is a real solider, they hired him as an advisor, but decided to include him in the story. Er, I thought all of them are real? Well, ok, you mean he is a regular, rather than conscripted like the others??? Well, consider he is rather older than the rest and already a colonel before the actual war starts... He should be a regular right??? No???
petetherock Posted December 24, 2008 Author Posted December 24, 2008 Bro Everyone else was an actor Col Sink (the actor who played him) served in Korea, Nam etc Er, I thought all of them are real? Well, ok, you mean he is a regular, rather than conscripted like the others??? Well, consider he is rather older than the rest and already a colonel before the actual war starts... evq Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Bro you should really read first, this info has been posted at least thrice... Opps, sorry. Guess i was too eager to share with u guys. Anyway, did you all know Col Sink is a real solider, they hired him as an advisor, but decided to include him in the story. oic, thanks for the info
armoury Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 Col Sink (the actor who played him) served in Korea, Nam etc Dale Dye, one of the best-known technical consultants for all military matters in Hollywood. IIRC his first major film was Platoon, and when Oliver Stone needed someone to play a military authority figure, he put Dye in, and ever since Dye often appears in movies he also consults on.
sandyph Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 got mine today from amazon :D will be watching tonight :D
petetherock Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 The sound field is tremendous. Try the Bastogne disc 6 scenes. The air explosions are very awesome and when Eugene discovers the nurse is amidst the rubble, and pulls out her scarf, listen out... can you hear the bits of ceiling falling, wood crumbling, and is it above your seat, and slightly behind? Then hear his feet crush the powder snow as he walks about looking for supplies. I got to say, the reproduction of machine gun fire is pretty much spot on, feels like and sounds like one of my live firing excercises. devilac Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 What is the difference between the BOB Blu Ray from US and UK? I am thinking of ordering from Amazon UK as it is cheaper. Can it play on my blu ray player, a Samsng BD-P1500? Thank you.
petetherock Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 Welcome to XP I suggest you read the Blu Ray coding thread, and check from there if BOB is region free or not before you buy. Singapore players are Region A. As a new member, also read the stickies in each section, there is a wealth of info in them, if you still have queries, then post them. Cheers What is the difference between the BOB Blu Ray from US and UK? I am thinking of ordering from Amazon UK as it is cheaper. Can it play on my blu ray player, a Samsng BD-P1500? Thank you.
devilac Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Thanks for the prompt reply. The reason why I am asking is that there is no indication of the format on amazon UK, except the following: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Band-Brothers-HBO-Complete-Blu-ray/dp/B001DEAAIY/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_2 Product details * Actors: Damian Lewis, David Schwimmer, Robin Laing, Dexter Fletcher, James Madio * Directors: David Nutter, Tom Hanks, Phil Alden Robinson * Format: Box set * Subtitles: English * Region: Region 2 ( DVD formats.) * Number of discs: 6 * Classification: 18 * Studio: Warner Home Video * DVD Release Date: 10 Nov 2008 * Run Time: 598 minutes * Average Customer Review: It states region 2, but not A or B as I have expected.

lksey Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I dont think its cheaper to get from uk, people selling brand new $80 now in xtreme place, u get abt the same price ordering from uk.. Amazon.uk is selling @ 33.98 pounds (after VAT rebate will be 28.883 pounds). Shipping is about 3.5 pounds. Throw in exchange rate of about 2.2, then we'd have the box set @ SGD71. Slightly cheaper.
neopluss Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Just got mine yesterday from Amazon US. Its US$34.99 for that short moment cause the next day I checked its back to $50+. Now, I'll check every now and then to see if there is any surprise pricing for my favourite movie.
desray Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Thanks for the prompt reply. The reason why I am asking is that there is no indication of the format on amazon UK, except the following: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Band-Brothers-HBO-Complete-Blu-ray/dp/B001DEAAIY/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_2 Product details * Actors: Damian Lewis, David Schwimmer, Robin Laing, Dexter Fletcher, James Madio * Directors: David Nutter, Tom Hanks, Phil Alden Robinson * Format: Box set * Subtitles: English * Region: Region 2 ( DVD formats.) * Number of discs: 6 * Classification: 18 * Studio: Warner Home Video * DVD Release Date: 10 Nov 2008 * Run Time: 598 minutes * Average Customer Review: It states region 2, but not A or B as I have expected. If it Amazon UK...then its Region 2. But this of course doesn't make any sense as its the DVD region coding format. But as far as I can tell, BOB Blu-ray is a production of HBO and it should be Region free from Blu-ray perspective. Why did you select Amazon UK instead of US portal? IIRC the trend is for ALL future Blu-ray releases to be region free...and in the market right now at least 75% of the titles are believed to be region-free. *Edit* : Just saw iksey's post on the marginal savings by buying from Amazon UK.
devilac Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Bought a new Region 1 box set today from a forum member. Will try it out as soon as time permits. ;D
Alpc Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Is there any difference in the content between UK and US version? Apparently my BR did not arrive... Sigh... So now, I will have to get another one. Not sure what's the next step...
petetherock Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 FYI There are region locked and region coded versions, so be careful when you get from UK or Oz
