armoury Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Heh. I'm just participating in that favourite Singaporean pastime -- "compraining"... no need to complain, back to us$54.99 again.... Guess I should be very happy. Got a refund of $6... But considering how much I've spent at Amazon over the years (a few thousand, I'm sure), it's the least they can do...
petetherock Posted December 16, 2008 Author Posted December 16, 2008 Just got my steel box set, does it all come in steel boxes? No dents, good packaging by DDD Edit: 1st episode.... super SQ and PQ! I think in SG we can identify with a lot happening in this series, due to our NS stint. I know a few jerks who were like Sobel in NS... we survived and did well after the brutal treatment we got in Gryphon ITD and OCS was a piece of cake ...
DanDon Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Received mine last night. It comes with a steel box with all the discs in it. I had never watched BOB before. Watched the 1st & 2nd episode just now and found some scenes were grainy and PQ was inconsistent. Just got my steel box set, does it all come in steel boxes? No dents, good packaging by DDD
InnocentBlood Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 the grain is intentional - don't let it distract you from what is essentially a great show :)

Those p***ks
weibchen Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 wah lau you're missing alot man! i remember the DVD i chiong 3 disc within a single night...and it was like automatic and not forced...
Alpc Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 So.. There are some with the same combi.. DVD/BR!
armoury Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 BR & DVD. Those downloaded through torrents count or not? :P Probably not. For that matter, now that I think about it, I think technically I saw the first few eps on VHS, i.e. I got my family to tape for me (since they have HBO and I don't), watched a few then decided to just buy the DVDs. Did the same thing with Firefly, after watching the first ep or two on Ch 5, I just went and bought the DVDs. No regrets with either series... ;D
cn9601 Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Update: owned - BR & digitised pch100 watched - BR, DVD-9, DVD Code 1 and Code 3 ;D
W Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 The sound field is tremendous. Try the Bastogne disc 6 scenes. The air explosions are very awesome and when Eugene discovers the nurse is amidst the rubble, and pulls out her scarf, listen out... can you hear the bits of ceiling falling, wood crumbling, and is it above your seat, and slightly behind? Then hear his feet crush the powder snow as he walks about looking for supplies. I got to say, the reproduction of machine gun fire is pretty much spot on, feels like and sounds like one of my live firing excercises. Added a review of BOB: wow ..can't wait to reach Disc 6. am watching disc 2 only ...going to slowly savour this .. owned DVD and BR ver.

petetherock Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 Friends The PQ of this movie is actually pretty good. It goes grainy whenever the men go to war, so as not to depict war in a positive light, but when they interview the veterans, it is as good as any other film. Even in the main movie, when they are in Salzburb for example, the scenery and background is super. The audio is truly astounding, the air burst in foy and bastogne are simply as real as I have heard. There are many touching scenes in the movie and I shall recommend showing this movie before each major battalion assessment for reservists, along with Black Hawk Down. It works, trust me, the men will behave far more tactically, run faster and simply play ball more when they are inspired by such a movie. Kudos to the producers, actors and all.
