desray Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Yippie ;D My son just call me to say my BoB has arrived safely on my desktop :D Thought it could be held up at MDA..... :o Incidentally I saw BOB Bluray selling for an exorbitant price of $169 at MJ at Causeway Point today. So confirm can pass MDA.
Audio Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Picked up one metal tin box at Best Buy last week at US$59. Not yet watch..... (Audio)
cn9601 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 WOW-WOW :o ;D 8) I have watched Disc 1 (Ep1 & 2) and Disc 2 (Ep3 & 4) - BAGUS. DTS-HD MS is superb, and I am so absorbed with the battle situation. MG rounds whistling around the room, and the realism of motar bomb leaving the barrel with vaccum acoustics (people in d good old Khatib Camp SoA, 21SA and 22SA sure can relate). Tis is like my 3rd or 4th time watching tis series, WOW, the HD audio provides a new sensation of watching tis series again. It is true the PQ maybe could have been better. But perhaps if it is too HD, it diminishes the representation of smoky, confusion, danger....background of WW2 ;) Tis the set tat I can 'play god' with my Onky manual equalizer setting, and to experience different sensation. Imagine watching it during day time and blast d volume at -12db. I bet guys in my neighbor will remember d good old NS days at Peng Kang hill and Area D & E Live Firing 8) My opinion: must OWN box set 8)
petetherock Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 Guys, name your favorite scenes :) Pete - 2nd episode the attack on the Guns.. and the visit to the prisoner camp, 9th episode, very poignant....
cn9601 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 If am rite, after the high USD, I paid close to SGD 100, incl. shipment. MJ is selling at SGD 169 :o, tats a whopping 70% more expensive ??? At d moment, I would hav thought the marginal difference is ard $5-$10, though for single disc (or 2-disc) :-\ Incidentally I saw BOB Bluray selling for an exorbitant price of $169 at MJ at Causeway Point today.
armoury Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Guys, name your favorite scenes :) For some reason, I rather like the scene of Captain Sobel getting his comeuppance, when late in the war he passes by Major Winters, tries to avoid making eye contact, then Winters calls him on it and requires Sobel to salute him, and throws Sobel's line from earlier in the war back at him "you saulte the rank, not the man". (Earlier, Captain Sobel had rubbed it into then-Lt Winters by insisting Winters salute him.) But there are plenty of great scenes in BoB, some funny, some just plain heart-rending (the medic looking for the nurse he was fond of after the pitched battle in the village comes to mind).
cn9601 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I recall one bonking scene ;D :o maybe on Disc 4 or 5. Yet to chk out the HD PQ of tis scene. But generally my favourites are all the battle scenes. Somehow these scenes bring 'fond' memories of the Live Firing experiences with DTS-HR MS - rifle round, MG round, motar bomb, artillery bombardment, chaotic soldiers - it is very interestingly heartfelt ;)
desray Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Just placed an order at Amazon. S$96 + shipping everything...
cn9601 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 cant wait to go home now to call for fire - Salvo Fire and Close Target on those German posns ;D I mean to blast the volume for those arty fire scenes ;)
Alpc Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 dang it.. sounds like I should get a copy of this as well... despite having the DVD version....
petetherock Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 Mate, I have the VCD, DVD and now the BR.... dang it.. sounds like I should get a copy of this as well... despite having the DVD version....
Alpc Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Mate, I have the VCD, DVD and now the BR.... Well... To be honest... I have 2 copies of the DVD - Disc1 of 1st copy has issues, so I had to get another copy. So... Now... it will be 3 copies... 2 DVD, 1 BR!!! ;)
cn9601 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 ;D ;D And I have watched 2 versions of DVD: 'cheong' DTS ones and DVD Code 1 DD, which still have it on my PCH-A100. Not exaggerating, but really the battle experience is more omni-present with BD DTS-HD MA. IMO, BoB BD audio is better (if not the best) than most of my BD collections, eg. Transformers, Matrix, Cars..... At least I could reminisce those MG rounds, motar bombs, 105mm howitzer firing, FIBUA.....WOW 8) Hmmmmm....drooling.....maybe I will cheong for BD Saving Pte Ryan when it is available ;D
desray Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Wow you guys make it sound like a reference DVD (in terms of sound)...so how's the PQ? Grainy?
cn9601 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 OK....in a nutshell, knda grainy, but PQ still better than SD DVD. Think there's one thread that provides a link where there's AB on BD and SD. And juz the helmet strap, it's clearly more visible thread details. It is true the PQ maybe could have been better. But perhaps if it is too HD, it diminishes the representation of smoky, confusion, danger....background of WW2 ;) ...so how's the PQ? Grainy?
cn9601 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 A review: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=1151&show=review ".....................This spectacular and significant series arrives on Blu-ray in a first-class package. Featuring a video quality that is true to the source, an incredibly detailed and lifelike soundtrack, and some impressive supplements, "Band of Brothers" on Blu-ray is a set that is a must-own, and it receives my highest recommendation.
