Tok about Password...The old school games require alot flip thru in the manual to make out some hidden passwords to clear the stage or puzzle....I still remember very clearly one of this games is Monkey Island ...U have to turn round " Voodoo Table " to clear some of the puzzle...very innovative gameplan  ;)

i loved the secret of monkey island ... one of the funniest titles to come out at that time. it's now freeware .. can get it from here

if you want to relive the Guybrush Threepwood experience.  ;D

I think you need the ScummVM to act as an emulator for you to run the game properly. You can download it right at the bottom of the same page, or I've included the link for the ScummVM download for you here

finally, a link to the sequel to SOMI: LeChuck's Revenge here! hosted on another site.

There're heaps of games that we used to play and love growing up that are now hosted on the net as free or abandonware. Just google either freeware and abandonware and see what comes up. bard's tale, king's bounty, wizardry, xcom, even the vector based Elite!  ;D

the list goes on ...

autoduel, castle wolfenstein, and of course, one of the grand-daddies of video games gives us this quote ..

'It is pitch dark. You are likely to get eaten by a grue ...'

if you can name the game within 5 seconds, you're showing your age.  ;D

Are there any decent adventure games in recent times?

The last one I played was Dreamfall.. otherwise known as Longest Journey 2. Wasn't too bad, but not that fantastic. Last memorable one I played was probably Grim Fandango.

and yes, bioshock was one of my best experiences last year (i played it on the xbox360 before it was released on the PC). it's not just the gameplay, it's the environmental design, style and even/especially the music. brilliant scripting.

the theme song with the voodoo and all is the best!

sorry for the double posting, but I was hit by a tsunami of nostalgia and decided to dig out and feature *drumroll*

The Music of Monkey Island!  ;D

Opening sequence for the first, Secret of Monkey Island. If you notice, it's more than 2 hrs long, so if you're free enough, you can watch the entire playthrough!

The sequel, LeChuck's Revenge

and the sequel to the sequel, Curse of Monkey Island!

A Pirate I wasn't meant to be ... the games are full of gems like these.

Okie, can anybody answer this?  ;D

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

I got my Monkey Island secret decoder wheel thanks to a "friendly shop" in SLS during my school days. That was the time when bringing a box of 5.25 diskettes (Verbatim or Maxwell is recommended) is a must. And all these photostated and stapled manuals on different color papers....I missed those days.

no worries. it's always a pleasure to meet up with like-minded folk who have similar influences in our formative years.  ;) those were probably the 1st golden age of computer games, with iconic companies like Sir-Tech, Sierra-Online, Microprose, Infocomm, and many many more, whom are mostly no longer around today.

either bankrupt or sold off their company...which is very sad...i miss those days of click click type of adventure game..sadly its very rare now...i wonder if u play b4 this game by Sierra by the name of Phantamagoria??

as requested, here's one of the many walkthroughs for monkey island. I've included the walkthrough for the first bit here to get you started.  ;D

VILLAGE

-------

At the start of the game, walk down the path from the lookout point. Go right

along the dock and open the door to the SCUMM Bar. Enter the SCUMM Bar and walk

right to enter the room with the three pirates. Walk close to the fireplace and

wait for the chef to exit from the door on the right. When the door opens and

the chef leaves, quickly walk right and enter the kitchen.

In the kitchen, get the pot under the table. Get the hunk of meat on top of the

table. Use the hunk of meat with the pot o' stew. Open the door on the right

and walk near the fish to find that a bird gets in the way. Walk onto the plank

at the bottom-right corner to fire the bird up into the air. Do this three

times. On the third time, quickly get the fish and go back into the kitchen.

Get the meat from the pot o' stew. Use the fish with the pot o' stew. Get the

stewed fish and exit the kitchen. Talk to the important-looking pirates. Say "I

want to be a pirate." Say "I'll just be running along now." Walk left past the

curtain and exit the SCUMM Bar. Walk left along the dock and go up the cliff

path. Walk through the archway and take the top-right path.
