Hi all, need some help here.

I just got myself the Onkyo SR-TX606 yesterday, and there's only 1 HDMI out, but I need to connect to both my TV and projector. Was intending to get a HDMI switch, and reverse the "INs" and "OUTs" but was told by the salesman that it would not work. Can anyone confirm this? If so, is there any switch with 2 outs and 1 in? Or the only choice is to get a HDMI splitter?

Also, are there any differences between a powered and non-powered HDMI switch? And does the switch need to be HDMI 1.3 compliant?

Sorry for the noob questions, the HD format too complicating for me to take in a day. HDMI got so many versions, blu-ray got profiles, and so many sound formats now.. ??? Still busy reading up...

Hi sorry to tag on, may i know how much and where did you get the onkyo (looking to get a 606 as well).

Regarding your question, i once read at avs forum that there is such thing as a hdmi splitter.

http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI%20distribution%20amp_splitter%202%20port.html

I have yet to see it in singapore

I got it for $728 from KEC, and currently they only have the silver colored one. For black, you will have to wait for about a week more.

Yup, actually I saw a few HDMI splitter at SLS, but they are quite costly, starts from around $200, while a switch can be as low as $55 now.

I think someone also ordered this one:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10113&cs_id=1011303&p_id=2522&seq=1&format=2

from the Monoprice MO before, you can ask him if what is the performance and decide what is applicable for you, hdmi switch or hdmi splitter.  You can also send your queries to monoprice website.

Oh, I think this is what I'm looking for! Thanks for you help, will email them about my queries. I prefer one that does not require power, as I have many equipment connected to the power plug, and the cables are already very messy. However, will this sacrifice quality significantly?

Thanks for your help guys! :)

Powered ones are for the remote capabilities or repeater functions.

If you dont mind manual switching than no problem for a non powered ones.

Try SLS UF Technology #03-69 saw a few types of HDMI switches(powered and non-powered) displayed

in their glass cabinets. Not sure If can you find one with 2 HDMI output though.

Hey guys ..

Just wondering whether anyone tried splitting a HDMI switch signal to TV and AVR out ? So let's say if someone doesn't want any amplification of their sources (DVD, PS3 , HD Box etc etc) and doesn't want to keep 'ON'ing their amp, one can just choose to go straight to the display? Is it viable, any one have any experience ? Or is there another way ? Thanks for ur kind attention  :)

Ok I have a Onkyo 606 too and have the same issue... TV/PJ to select the onkyo output to...so a hunting I went

Cheap as chips solution needed... went to ASK at SLT 3rd floor and got a small 2 in 1 out SoundTech Electronics manual (non powered switch). $65 - but I'm  a regular client :) picture here http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/3391/143050fe9.jpg

Then you have to mod it... basically take out the 4 base screws and open it up... u will see 2 of each of the following

diodes

resistors

blue led

switches

basically to cut a long story short, just turn the 2 diodes the way around :) and u get 1 in 2 out .... simple and tested working ok to a hitachi 8500 plasma and a panasonic ae2000 proj

the operation switches pin 18 (+5V)  to work back to front, and the other signals get sent to port 1 or 2 via the switches... signal lines are 1,3,4,6,7,9,10,12,15,16 and 19 (0V/GRND for the LEDs)

any one with a soldering iron and a small pair of tweezers/pliers should be able to cope...

Good luck brothers
