Magnuz Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Hi, I am still new to HT and have made the following purchases so far. AVR - Onkyo 805 Front - Kef Q35 (KIV B&W 684 in near future) Centre - Wharfdale WH-2 Back - Revel Concerta F12 Surround - None atm (Kef Q35 in near future) Sub - None atm (SVS PB12+ in near future) I have a NAD 720BEE atm, I am thinking of Parasound Halo A52. I plan to use NAD for the front 2 and Parasound for the other 5 channels. 1.) Is this a good idea? 2.) How can I match the vol on all 7 channels so that I need not calibrate both Amps everytime I watch movies or listen to multi channel music? 3.) Any other advice? Thank you all.
gearbox Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 i did a lot of reading and research on power amps recently.. suggestion.. sell off your current NAD 720 and get yourself a NAD Master Series M25 (160 x 7 channels).. retail at 4.8k.. call their dealer for best price.. NAD have lower range of power house.. the T975..
DizzyD1624705734 Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Worth having a look at Rotel 7 Channel digital amp or NuForce Multichannel Digital Amp. Its has smaller chassis and thinner. Regards
domj Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 You didn't mention abt a centre speaker? I assume you are using a single Q35 as a centre? If so, then I feel the Parasound for the fronts and surrounds would be better match (same amp same speakers) and you can relegate the NAD to the rears.
Magnuz Posted March 26, 2008 Author Posted March 26, 2008 I am using a Whafdale WH-2 for the time being. Might pickup a Revel/B&W Centre in the near future. Basically, I am thinking of using; NAD - to drive Front 2 spkrs Parasound - to drive Centre, Surround and Rear spkrs, But being new to all this, I have no idea how to achieve and save the vol. level for both amp so that I get similar decibel from each of the 7 channel! If I am using NAD and Parasound in tandem, wiil I need to recalibrate both everytime I listen to surround music/movies? Worse comes to worse, I will just sell the NAD and get a pair of Rotel 1075s or Parasound A52s! Now that has to work right? Can't have different vols from same model!
gearbox Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 bro Magnuz.. may i know why you shortlist the Parasound A52? care to share your thoughts?
DizzyD1624705734 Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 hi to answer your question. you can do level matching using your pre amp level adjustment but you got to have a sound meter to ensure the level is consistent from all channels. thanks
Magnuz Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 bro Magnuz.. may i know why you shortlist the Parasound A52? care to share your thoughts? Hi bro, I guess its more a personal preference. I will audition both ofcourse prior. But from the reviews on the net so far, Parasound seems to have higher recommendations. Unless the price diff btw the two is night and day, I am more inclined towards Parasound.

I never knew that. Thanks! I will research more on setting pre-amp levels on Onkyo 805.

One more question about Parasound, where can i find a Halo A52 to audition? Also, how about other ICE modules by B&O (other than Rotel recommended by DizzyD)? Sorry if i ask too much probably want to get an analysis on power amps currently available. ;)
Magnuz Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 I just made some enquiries. Parasound is sold locally. No audition, cause no stock. Will only order in if I wish to buy. Price ~$3000, 1yr warranty! In light of the above, I am now more inclined towards Rotel. Pay $3k for only a year of warranty! This is not worth the investment. Even a $1k speaker have 3yrs warranty!
domj Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Maybe can try Merdeka at SLS for Parasound? Think they are the agent (or used to be anyway).
simic Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 have you considered emotiva? biggest bang for the buck. But a bit leh chey to bring it in all the way from USA via vpost and CGW. But they sound and the build quality is tok kong.
