lonewold_sg Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 The Sword of Truth is an epic multi-volume fantasy novel series by author Terry Goodkind. There are 10 books in the series with the final chapter to be published this year. I have been reading the story since Wizard First Rule was published in 1994. The last book I read was Book#8 - Naked Empire. Recently I went to look for info on the remaining books in the series and found out that Sam Raimi has convinced Terry to allow him to adapt the series into an ambitious 22-episodes mini series. Here's the link from Terry endorsed fansite and Wikipedia: Sword of Truth in Flim The Sword of Truth live-action weekly series Not sure how many of you are familiar with the series but with Sam on board, I'm cautiously optimistic that this will be every bit as spectacular as the LOTR trilogy was. Obviously the budget and the effects will nowhere be as good as those in LOTR but no one say that SFX for TV series need to be sloppy either. One to look out for this year. If the series is released for May 2008 telecast, I wonder if it will be available on DVD by the end of the year.
lonewold_sg Posted September 23, 2009 Author Posted September 23, 2009 The Legend of the Seeker has landed! The series is currently showing on Sci Fi Starhub Ch 99 on Monday (with repeats throughout the week). And Channel 5 will be telecasting the series from October. Legend of Seeker Wikipedia Having caught the first 3 episodes and being a fan of the book in which the series was based on, I would say that the adaptation is decent for a TV series. The sfx is great and the action, while too 300-ish is OK. I think the cast of the 3 main characters are generally alright. Craig Horner playing Richard Cypher is a little on a skinny side for an epic fantasy hero but his portrayal of the seeker is commendable. Those who read the books would agree that it was Richard's empathy that is arguably his greatest strength. Horner played that aspect of Richard's character well. Bridget Regan playing the role of the Mother Confessor Kahlan Amnell was always going to be a difficult role to fill because all of us imagined her to be drop-deep gorgeous with a supermodel figure and boobs and yet at the same time kick some arse when necessary. Briget has an exotic look that fits the role of Kahlan well. Perhaps more importantly the fact that she is a relative unknown works in her favour when portraying the mysterious and exotic beauty. Oh and she can kick arse well enough. The casting coup is without a doubt Bruce Spence playing grand wizard Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander. Zed was this eccentric and seemingly bumbling old man in the book. He was also perhaps the most powerful wizard and Bruce captured the feel and spirit of Zed most excellently. There are 22 episodes in season 1 and the series has been renewed for season 2. So do watch out for this one if fantasy is your thing.
